Keto everywhere now it seems

It seems like every time I turn the tv on or read a paper, the keto diet is being mentioned. I had assumed that I would be happy for this, but I have had quite the opposite reaction. With all of the press come the haters, skeptics, and naysayers. It really is evident where the reactions come from if you just follow the money. I can see the relationship, but what saddens me is that so many who could benefit from this woe are going to either stop or never start because some so called “expert” had a negative thing to say about it. Jillian Michaels is just the latest making waves out there. Now, I don’t consider myself an “expert” in any aspect of anything really. However, I do know how influential celebrities can be. If someone is on the fence they may just quit because Jillian says that keto makes your autophagy all wonky. That statement makes little sense to me nor does it to most of us who have done even a little bit of research on the subject. But to that person who is on the fence and uninformed, this could be the excuse that they were looking for to throw the towel in. My only hope is that a certain percentage of us make it through this noise to the other side and continue to influence others by modeling healthy living.

Well it is true that keto does not require anything special, some people need the crutch of store bought materials and books and celebrities shouting from the hills to help them get through it. Although I don’t think most people will ever embrace keto many many people will do a lower carb diet. I still see lots of Metabolically healthy people eating vegan, vegetarian, even SAD, and still seem to be OK. And I would think that unless you have a driving health issue you won’t shift to Keto. SAD is just too delicious

Yeah, I am afraid it will be like January 2nd at the gym. Floods of people will try Keto for a week and say it didn’t work. Without doing lots of research many only know keto as a temporary weigh loss “plan”. It is they that will cause the keto WOE to become the latest fad diet. So sad.

I’m hoping that keto has passed the “fad” stage at this point (regardless of the critics). Just too many people having results and populating the internet with videos, blogs and articles etc. Keto also has a strong base of people pushing the science forward. That is hugely important.

Paleo was in the “fad” stage for a while, but has become a movement with a solid base at this point.

Carnivore is still a fad at this stage (IMO), and time will tell what becomes of it.

I have been listening to great number of podcasts from carnivore cast. I was trying to do January or carnivore, but life gets in the way. I think too many people have a discomfort or fear of carnivore still. Most people are pretty comfortable seeing you eat a green salad with a bit of meat on top and olive oil, but a pile of meat :cut_of_meat: :poultry_leg::cut_of_meat::bacon::meat_on_bone:not really.

Gouging from non-diet forums from most people I’ve seen they think Carnivore is some sort of intentional trolling of Vegans by redpill dudebros. Not sure how that image took over, tho I suspect something must have happened where Reddit made the spotlight. If people pushed Carnivore as the ultimate elimination and anti-inflammatory diet, the general populace would maybe have less of a knee jerk reaction to it.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Keto. I know Atkins did well for a couple decades but could not survive the death of Dr. Atkins himself, considering the lies spread about his cause of death. But that was back during the early days of the Internet, when it was easier to let lies float. I would hope people could do their own research on Keto and make their own decisions. Then again, there’s a wealth of knowledge at people’s fingertips and yet people still believe in some stupid stuff, so who knows.

No doubt the awareness of keto has grown over the last few years, but my hope for it is to go beyond a weight loss diet, and be seen as metabolic restoration.

People have to come to a demarcation point in their lives for this to happen, and I will gladly be ready to answer questions, when they’re ready to ask. Until then, we’ll just have to put up with the fad status of this WOE, and let the January 2nd dieters come and go.

LFHC has failed us, and it is only a matter of time before people come to accept this reality. There are few options–continue to accept the status quo of the last 50 years and suffer, or believe that keto can restore your health and make life worth living again.

The choice was easy for me, but then again I HAD to make that choice.

On the upside, it was good when my wife and I were recently on holidays and we had lunch at a Keto Cafe* and on another occasion were able to buy ‘Commando’s Keto Caesar Salad with extra protein’ at Sumo Salad**.

*Any Aussies interested can find this cafe at the Erina Fair shopping Centre in NSW.
**Aussies also take note, it’s a current promotion at all Sumo Salad chains.

I like to talk about keto but no one will listen because I have keto induced brain starvation. Drain Bamage I tell ya!
