Keto Dinner Time!

(*Tame Those Ghrelin Gremlins) #1

Hello,I thought it would be interesting to see what a typical meal in a day is for a newbie vs a veteran. This is not only informative for us newcomers but also interesting to see how we evolve. I would like each poster to list a “then” (new to keto) and a “now” (wise wisdom keto) . Also if you can list how long in keto you were during these times would be helpful. Thank you :grinning: I will go first but I only have a “now” list since I’m New sry.

”Now”. Two weeks in

1 cup of coffee with a shot of cream for breakfast. Also the dredded fatbomb.

For lunch usually turkey or ham and cheese roll ups with mustard or deviled eggs.

Dinner is a juicy steak with steamed broccoli and butter.

I think, at the beginning (Nov, 2018), I tried to eat more “meal-like” things.

So a typical breakfast might be 2 eggs, tomato, with fresh mozzarella and if really hungry, bacon, too.

Then maybe a salad with some kind of protein, avocado, and homemade mayo as a dressing.

Dinner would be steak or ground beef, broccoli or cabbage.

Now - Meals are much less common because I’m usually eating just one meal/day. Still like a juicy steak with a veg of some kind. The above eggs have remained a favorite, too. But there are also days, like today, where I’ve had chicken broth and that’s it.

Now vs Then…it’s a lot more about whether or not I’m hungry and what I’m wanting than anything else. Yesterday, I ate a LOT of fat, but that’s what I was craving.

I started in July 2018. About a month later I started writing down what I ate.

Typical day then. Four meals:

  1. Eggs, salsa.
  2. Greens (e.g., kale), salmon patty, mayo.
  3. Cheese.
  4. Whey protein shake.

Since then I’ve simplified, and basically eliminated the veggies and protein shakes. Typical day has the same amount of food as before, but in 2 larger meals:

  1. Ground beef.
  2. Eggs and cheese.

When I first started for the first 6 weeks I drank a bullet proof coffee and for lunch I lived on kebab salads and lettuce wrap burgers. Ground Beef with Taco mix in lettuce leaves. I cooked everything in butter and used to drink cream from the carton.

Now I don’t eat very often, I do extended fasting, I’m 8 1/2 months in and when I DO eat, it’s typically steak, pork belly, or grill’d, which is an Australian burger place, they do low carb burgers.
Sometimes I only eat 3-5 times a week.
I don’t eat as much fat anymore, don’t drink bulletproof coffee, barely even eat high fat (I’m fat adapted).
I’m a few KG from my goal weight and I’ve lost 42lbs so far.

Wow it’s so fascinating to see how appetites just disappear. I have got to a point where on some days I eat only twice but it is crazy to think down the road I will be able to fast. I will definitely post my meals here after some time.

I’m a year in and in maintenance for the past 3-4 months. What you just listed would be a very typical day for me now. I did bulletproof coffee, fat bombs, and all those other high fat items in the beginning, but then gradually and spontaneously got rid of those. I actually feel better with leaner cuts of meat and only a little side veg. Very fat adapted at this point.

I’m 4 months in and here’s my day of eating:

Breakfast:
Coffee with HWC and Splenda and salt
5 pieces of bacon

Early dinner:
Brussel sprouts in bacon grease
Bone in pork chop

And snack:
Bit of bakers chocolate mixed with splenda, salt, butter.

Yesterday was about the same but with tuna salad for lunch.

This (in my opinion) is a good way to go. Let it happen naturally and eat when your body tells you to eat. I worry about folks who are fasting right out of the gates for the purpose of dropping weight fast.
