Does anyone on the Keto diet have diverticulitis. Does it cause flareups. How often for you? Do you know what foods cause it?
Iv only been on this diet for a fortnight and iv had 2 flareups (agonising stomach cramps like labour pains)
Any advice???
Keto diet and diverticulitis
It would probably help to list exactly what you ate before the two flareups.
Hello and welcome Lara.
The article linked below suggests avoiding nuts, Certain vegetables, such as asparagus, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower as well as dairy. It’s not a keto article but the avoidables should still apply. Hope this helps:
I do.
I have had a few really awful diveritculitis bouts that led to emergency admissions and a lot of confusion.
I have also had IBS pretty badly; have been on Monash FODMAP diet using their phone app for the last few years which has helped but for some reason when I started Keto my diverticulitis flared back up even though I was following all my Monash FODMAP guidelines. I believe now it was because I was eating a lot more meat and it wasn’t grass fed…same for the bone broths etc.
I have a pretty massive sensitivity to lectins. Took quite awhile to pin down what was causing the problem. It is worth ruling out if you have serious GI issues.
Just recently have gone carnivore but with only grass fed meat and organic free range chicken, wild fish and only organic grass fed butter and organic olive oil at present. Pain has gone and am building up my shredded colon wall now.
Unfortunately organic and grass fed everything costs more but the up side is, I don’t have any symptoms currently_at all_ and have no pain anymore.
Also taking grass fed source collagen.
I wish you well and hope you can find your own causes and get rid of them and get rid of the pain.
Sorry this is very long and I realize none of it may apply to you but am writing on the off-chance that some of it may be helpful for ruling out.
