Hi everyone.
A good friend of mine has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. He has been advised by his doctor to cut out all meat and eat mostly high carb veggies. Knowing what I know about keto this advice baffles the f*** out of me! Can anyone think of why this advice might be given? Ive asked the person concerned to query their doctors advice but he and his family are thoroughly demoralised by this and don’t have the mental stamina to chase this up! Are there any good sources of ketto and cancer I can point them to?
Keto diet and cancer
Hi Frank,
Do you have access to this (locked) part of the forum ?

Your friend’s family probably needs a few weeks to overcome the shock.
Maybe try talking “diet” to him again in 4 weeks time…?
A plant-based diet is the conventional diet advice at most major cancer centers and the big cancer associations. There are a handful of oncologists adding ketogenic diets to standard of care, but few and far between. This is my top recommendation for a book on Keto and Cancer and basic dietary advice: https://www.dietarytherapies.com/foods/
Check that whole section previous poster linked above, you will find Dr. Tan (she has a great first letter to give your friend https://www.ketooncologist.com/en_US/2017/12/17/open-letter-oncologist/) Dr LeManne https://www.ketogenicforums.com/t/carbohydrate-restriction-to-enhance-cancer-therapy-new-talk-by-dr-dawn-lemanne/30650 and the other researchers involved with Keto and Cancer. And exciting news this morning…a prominent article on front page of Guardian about the new study at MSK.
I haven’t listened to it yet myself, but 2ketodudes podcast #12 is titled cancer.
Worth listening to it and see what they have to say.
The women on the magic pill also had cancer and was a further stage of cancer, give that a watch, her doctors called her a miracle patient!
You might try showing him info on Dr. Otto Warburg who won the 1932 Nobel Prize. His work is the reason we know about Keto and cancer. Remind him that doctors and big pharmaceutical companies do not want to cure cancer, much more profitable to treat it as long as possible.
Lost my wife to cancer before I learned about Keto, I wish the doctors would have told us about diet.
The woman in The Magic Pill had a small (.8 cm), early stage tumor, though also with somewhat aggressive grades of two types of cancer. She had it treated with cryoablation and over the years as written about her treatments, reading of relevant studies, her follow up protocols with MRIs, etc. She did not accept the gold standard of surgery, chemo, radiation and is obviously doing very well, so if interested in the details, check http://www.kosherketogenic.com/index.php/my-blog/my-personal-story/another-option-for-breast-cancer
