Hello. I am from India here. I want to lose weight. I was very thin but gradually got fatter as life became sedentary. I have also been diagnosed with pcos. I am trying the keto diet with my dietician. Lets see how this goes. Its my first day today!!
Keto diet - 87.3 kgs - experimenting - 1st day
Hello and welcome to the forums! Lots of great tips, advice and experience to be found here.
Welcome to KF! You’ve come to the right place for excellent information and a very supportive community. Once you’ve been a member for a bit of time, you’ll have access to the health area where there’s a section on PCOS, so hang in there and start exploring.
Thank you all. Im feeling great today. No sign of keto flu. Though having a dry itchy throat. Is that related?
I’m happy to read that you have a dietician onboard. That is a major accomplishment. Please keep us posted on your journey.
What evidence do you have to suggest you are no longer thin because you became sedentary?
Is every sedentary person in India thin? I doubt it. I’ve visited India, several times…and that is not what I observed at all.
Well i just assumed that i got fat because of not being active and eating all sorts of junk like mcdonalds, kfc and then there iis pcos. Some of indians do have great metabolism which doesnt make them fat but believe me they do have host of other metabolic diseases.
Like for eg. My mom is what you call conventionally fat and dad is reed thin but he has all sorts of issues such as diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol
Anyway day 2 - i have lost 0.8 kgs!! From 87.2 to 86.4 kgs. I know its water weight! But still happy!
I’m confused

I take this as putting out there the idea that becoming sedentary may not be a primary reason for someone no longer being thin. Makes a lot of sense to those of us on this forum for a while or listeners to the 2KD podcast. It’s the carbs/insulin that cause problems, you can lose weight whilst immobile on a keto diet, etc. How does that jive with this
Did you mean to say “Is every sedentary person in India heavy”? Have I misunderstood?
I’ve read, thoroughly enjoyed & greatly benefited from so much of your content here @Fiorella so most confusing for me is the tone of your post as it came across to me. I understand the smackdown given to the notion that being sedentary causes weight gain but to me this came across as a beat down on a new forum member who’s giving a tiny insight into their story using the language & understanding many of us have before we become enlightened with keto knowledge. Made me feel uncomfortable in this place for the first time.
My apologies, this was not intent ended as a smack down at all.
I have been to India, and saw both sedentary and non sedentary people. I really didn’t see a connection between those that have gained weight versus those that have not in terms of sedentary life.
This connection also connotes CICO, where for example, Coca Cola commercials remind us that if we move more, and drink soda from smaller bottles, we wouldn’t have an obesity or diabetes epidemic.
It is pretty dangerous thinking, and the power of “show me the science” helps to dispel those myths.
Thank you Fiorella, much appreciated. Totally agree that the science is a huge eye opener. I feel so much happier understanding what is happening in my body rather than taking dietary advice from corporates desperate to keep selling us rubbish and the morally/ethically bankrupt dietary associations that back these corporation with their “energy balance” marketing spin. They seem to want the population to keep calm & diabetes on - no thanks.
Excellent! Well-said!
The CICO way of thinking has held many of us back from finding the right path to health. I’m so happy that we have this forum to take those myths apart.
Day 3 - no sign of keto flu yet. But my dietician had done a detox diet with me one week prior with 50g carbs so maybe my body is already accustomed to low carb. Weight today at 86.2 kgs. My pants already seem looser and i cut off 1 inch off my hips! Yay!
Day 3 - seems like i have caught the keto flu. Very very tired. I usually walk from my workplace to my home which is only a km away but i was so tired that i took a taxi and came and collapsed on my bed. Any suggestions for improving these symptoms?
Sodium from salt, potassium from avocados and usually magnesium from supplements with very generous amounts of water.
Over-dosing on potassium can be dangerous, so it’s best to avoid pills and get it from natural foods, although there are some salt substitutes or hybrids that are only potassium or mixed with sodium that are good choices, too.
Day 4 - seems like sodium and pottasium really helped. I am back on my feet. But weight is the same at 86.2 kgs. In my dream world, you lose some weight everyday! Sigh!
