Keto, diabetes and strenuous exercise

Any thoughts on making sure your sugar doesn’t drop during strenuous exercise? Don’t want to “carb up” or get kicked out of ketosis.

Strenuous exercise is usually anaerobic, which causes glucose to go UP, not down. When I am lifting weights, my glucose will rise from 80 to 120+ easily.

Endurance exercise is highly aerobic, which can cause glucose to drop. However, if you are fat adapted, you can pretty much just go on fat fuel without any need to carb up or worry about things. That has been my experience.

I do aerobic exercise 4-5 times a week - either 1000m swims or 5-10m walks, usually fasted and have never had trouble with blood glucose dropping

Are you taking any meds that lower blood sugar?
if not you won’t hypo your body won’t let you.

Yes I am still on meds I’m thinking about restarting Jiu Jitsu which is aerobic and anaerobic and can burn over 1000 cal in a class. Should I eat some fat or take some exogenous ketones for fuel prior to class?

Which meds more important… lots of people exercise fasted but when on keto most have dropped their med requirements…
