Keto Break Impacts

(JanetW) #1

I made the transition to Keto on 7/23/18 when my doctor recommended it for diabetes control. I’ve been in nutritional Ketosis consistently for about 4 months strong. Slow, but very positive results: normalized blood sugars, metformin dose cut by 50%, blood pressure meds now at min dose, and 20 lb. weight loss with no exercise yet (that’s next add). I’ve decided to go “off diet” for 2 days only(Christmas and Boxing Day) and am monitoring to see what impact I’ll see.

So far I’ve noticed:
* cake/cookies have been SUPER sweet and don’t “hit the spot” as expected. My homemade lemon white chocolate chip cookie was yummy with the 1st cookie only… subsequent cookie that evening was “ok”
* the burger I had with nice, soft bun was good but no more enjoyable than having it wrapped in lettuce
* flour tortilla with Christmas steak fajitas was good, but not as stellar as I expected it to be.
* overall, I’m finding that my Keto menus are just as, if not more satisfying :slightly_smiling_face:

I go back to my normal (Keto) lifestyle tomorrow…I expect I’ll be out of ketosis. It’ll be interesting to see how long it’ll take to get back where I need to be.

No Regrets… Still in it for the long haul! :slightly_smiling_face:

Interesting insights. I will keep your comments in mind should I face a holiday dilemma. Happy New Year!

Yes, I’ve found that only the first one, or even just the first bite, tastes good. Great if you can stop after just one!

I started about the same time as you. For a long time I was looking forward to my next trip to Costco so I could have a Polish sausage WITH THE BUN. I still haven’t made it to Costco, and I no longer want this. Just as well; the bun would probably give me a stomach ache now.

Good luck getting back on track tomorrow.

I agree that every time I’ve had a carby thing since beginning this woe it’s been lackluster and never as good as I think it will be. This is good news. Now I’m beginning to imagine any alluring carby thing as crap and can pass it up easier.

There are very few things that are as good as you hoped or remember them to be. My friends toffee was fantastic my Yeast raised dough rolls really gave me a bellyache and I threw out some fudge the other day it just wasn’t worth it. Being said I’ve eaten way too much crap this holiday. I didn’t do it last year.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

I ate some crap, too. Fortunately, keto seems to have made the pleasure highly self-limiting—a very pleasant surprise!
