Keto bread from NZ...is it a good idea?

#1

I found a bread in the health food shop in Sydney this week labelled Keto Hemp & Linseed Bread.
4.8g carbs 6.2g protein 14.2g fat in 2 slices/70 gm.
I haven’t bought any sort of bread for some years, cause I avoid wheat… but this kind of fascinated me.
coconut oil, tapioca, free range egg, green banana flour, ground linseed, hemp seeds, almond meal, psyllium husk, apple cider vinegar, coconut flour, konjac powder, yeast, salt, guar gum, sunflower lecithin.

My question is: Has anyone who has reversed their diabetes eaten this type of bread and maintained their metabolic health and not stacked on weight?

I split it into 2 slice packs and put them in the freezer after trying some toasted with butter, which was a great treat after about 6 years without any toast. It was a really nice texture, which I am missing recently.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

Be careful with the carb count, is all I’ll say. If you can limit yourself, and you like the taste, why not simply enjoy?

I know diabetics who include small amounts of regular (albeit lower carb) bread in their diet and do just fine with both their weight and their blood sugar management :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks P:aul. Yes I will keep a close eye on the carb count. And the self!

Thanks OrangePimpernel, that is exactly what I was wanting to hear.
Those New Zealanders are fiendishly clever.

They are kicking goals all over the place at the moment.

Those sound like better ingredients than the stuff you find in the US. Over here a loaf of Keto bread costs about $7 and the first ingredient is modified wheat starch. I personally make my own stuff at home because I don’t trust anything commercial to tell the truth.

Yes I am careful too and I only read the list cause of the label Keto Hemp and Linseed brread.

The thing that got me was the green banana flour which I have read is a fantastic prebiotic and I have never seen it as an ingredient.

This bread is very expensive locally, its imported.
