Oh come now, you’re my friend your wit far outweighs the Aussie factor!
Keto Beginner: 8 lbs lost in a week? Deep ketosis already?
Actually, then, I guess it’s three, and two of them are female doctors
EDIT: And Terry is the other one
Isn’t it funny how we all end up commenting on the same posts/each others’ posts. Wonder if it’s a) the smaller time difference compared with the US or b) we are serial lurkers or c) all of the above?
Humans are social animals (well, most of them), and so they gravitate to like-minded ones in order to be social.
So yes, c) plus more reasons
I’m 24 and starting out at 235 lbs I use stevia occasionally and eat regular foods just with low low carbs. Staying under 20 carbs each day
Every morning around 8-10am I have 3 eggs and four strips of turkey bacon and a cup of coffee with heavy whipping cream, a tsp of vanilla, and a tbsp of stevia. I usually eat something like a turkey and cheese unwich from jimmy johns or I replicate it at home here (mayo has zero or close to zero). For dinner I usually eat something substantial like tilapia, beef and broccoli, or pulled beef with taco shells that are made from lettuce or melted cheese. Yesterday, my husband and I made zucchini spaghetti with my new spiralizer and it wasss sooo good!!
Hi Drea!
I am in almost the exact same boat as you. 225 lbs 5’6". Started on the first. As of this morning I was 217 lbs so 9 lbs lost and ketone test showing between the last two readings. One difference is I have definitely had some pretty severe muscle cramps primarily in my legs over the last couple of days. My water has been fine but I’m not sure I’m getting enough salt so I’m adding potassium chloride to my meals.
Still having some carb cravings but for the most part the diet has been relatively easy to stick to. More than any other I’ve tried and trust me I’m a veteran to the dieting circuit lol.
While everyone’s experience is different just know you aren’t alone in your experience during this beginning stage. Also, as far as the rapid weight loss goes try to remember that we are losing water weight right now as well as fat so the speed of the lbs dropping will probably start diminishing fairly soon.
Good luck to us both!
Drea, your results sound … kinda normal? I mean, 8 lb of water loss for someone over 200 lb is probably about average (I lost 8 lb in the first week of Jan too, after a keto restart following a horrendous December).
Spilling ketones isn’t unusual either. Your body only stores about a day’s worth of glycogen anyway, so once you’ve used that up, it’s ketone-time. Some folks who don’t even follow a keto diet can register on pee sticks if they test fasted overnight and after some morning exercise.
Oh, and keto flu is not compulsory. Never had it. The diarrhea isn’t uncommon either (or so I’ve heard), but should resolve itself.
So - all good, nothing weird. KCKO!
What was ur food intake pls share as mayb could follow some of ur recipes and menu
I use Splenda since it’s zero cold and zero carbs. I have to have my coffee in the morning with some heavy whipping cream cinnamon and Splenda to start my day. I will definitely be keeping this even after transitioning back to carbs once my weight loss goal is achieved simply because it’s sooo much creamier and more filling than regular coffee creamer.
My meal/day looks like this:
-
Breakfast: 8oz of coffee with two tbsp of heavy whipping cream, 1 tbsp Splenda, and cinnamon to taste (adding unsalted butter helps if I have a day where I’m not sure I’m going to get lunch) if I have time to sit down and eat I have turkey bacon (simply because I like the toaste better than regular bacon
) and a couple of fried eggs.
-
Lunch: I marinate chicken tenderloins the night before and have been whipping up kebabs since they are fast on a broil setting of 400 for 20 minutes. We usually pair steamed broccoli
with it and it’s filling enough and quick enough to make it to dinner.
-
Dinner: this is our big meal of the day. We’ve been bouncing from meatloafs to chicken meals and even spicy kale and pork soups. This meal is where we get the protein we need for the day and we usually eat steamed veggies here as well. We even made celery root fried and daiken fries to experiment a bit. They have a bit more carbs but we like “splurging” (rather reaching or collecting most of our 20 carb limit) in this meal.
Snacks: lots of string cheese and Oscar Meyer cheese dogs with mustard and hot sauce.
Also, I drink between 8-10 water bottles a day with about half of them having propel zero to give me a bit more variety in my water which really helps.
I love turkey bacon!! There’s more meat less fat which I personally appreciate. I get a lot of my daily fat from olive oil and heavy whipping cream.
I listed a more detailed response to someone else which included some of the foods I use. I get a lot of my recipes from DietDoctor. I have a paid subscription, but it definitely has helped me by taking away stress of trying to give in head first to Keto while not knowing anything about it.
This is what we are waiting for, getting into Ketosis was easy. (For me personally) Being fully fat adapted is a whole different thing.
