Hello - new to Keto (2 months) and this forum. I use a GlucoRX HCT blood test and glucose around 4.5 and Ketones normally at 3 but last night went up to 6.0 ketones and glucose 4.0, do I need to worry that Ketones went too high? I quickly drank some fizzy pop and it came down to 5.1 but still higher than normal.
Keto at 6.0 - Is this a concern
Completely fine, don’t waste money or time with ketone readings. Eat right and let everything do it’s job.
Diabetic ketoacidosis is not an issue until ketones reach 10.0, and even then, I have heard of people with slightly higher readings than that who were fine. The key is whether there is insulin in your blood. If you are not a Type I diabetic (whose pancreas has stopped producing insulin because of autoimmune damage), ketoacidosis is not a concern. If your ketone level ever goes above 10.0, you might want to seek medical attention as soon as possible, just to make sure you are okay, but otherwise, you should be fine.
There is a lot of individual variability where ketone levels are concerned, both between people and in the same person over time. You are likely to find that as you continue with your ketogenic diet, your ketone levels will drop as your body adjusts and becomes better at matching production to consumption and as your muscle cells switch from using ketones to fatty acids.
