Keto and quitting smoking

(Holly Walters) #1

Hello fellow Ketonians!!
I am relatively new to keto, about 6 weeks and absolutely love it!! However, I just got the prescription for Chantix and will be taking it soon and have a quit date.
I just wondered if anyone out there had the experience of quitting smoking right after starting keto.
I am afraid I am changing too much at once, but my body wants to move more and my lungs are like cough cough so I want to quit.

Not exactly the same as I gave up smoking in 2000 and have been keto for only two years, but back at that time I actually gave up smoking, drinking alcohol, eating deep fried carby food, AND stopped biting my nails all at once - it was the biggest and best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Suddenly I had energy that needed using, so that’s when I started bike riding, then weights… onward and upward.

If you’re feeling ready and want to do it, go for it

I’ve been Keto for 4 months and have tried giving up several times - probably 5 times. Initially I thought it might be because I was doing too much. I was having anxiety attacks over it. Actually since I have been on keto, and I’ve stopped stuffing my emotions down with food, I’ve been surprised to find how much anxiety I actually have (I would have told you how calm I am!!!) - obviously the smoking has been a self medicating thing. I haven’t tried again now that I am properly fat adapted. But believe that it is time. My lungs are going ‘cough cough’ too. Thanks for the reminder. Let me know how the chantix goes - is that like champix - where it blocks of the nicotine receptors in the brain so if you do smoke you feel nauseous. I have had a few friends stop with this method and hear good reports.

I stopped last year. All that fear and worry about how difficult it is. It’s all bullshit. It’s not difficult at all, it’s just brainwashing. Our society makes a big deal out of it only to make it more difficult to quit. They tell you it’s bad for you to increase your stress-levels which makes you crave your next cigarette. There is a whole industry pretending to help you quit, but their true motivation is to create the illusion that you need help, that it is very difficult even with help and that you can’t do it alone.
It’s all bullshit. You are being fucked in the ass with every smoke you take and they are all laughing about you.

Update: I’m finally off the cigs - 8 weeks. Thank goodness. It feels fantastic. If you’re still trying, I highly recommend a free app called ‘Stop Smoking in two hours’ - Jason Vale. There are a lot of tools out there and what ever works for you but I actually found the way he framed the ‘quitting’ thing really helpful. Good luck.
