Keto and Parenting Small Children

(In a #ketomarriage with @peggaloon) #1

Please tell me I’m not the only one -

Fasting is hard with a fridge within a 2m walk
Fasting is hard with small children who are being served delicious keto foods
Keto is hard when constant cortisol is causing my ghrelin to spike
Keto is hard with disrupted sleep
Keto is hard with constant tiredness
Keto is hard with being run off your feet all the time.

Sorry for the rant. I’m feeling like the biggest failure at Keto at the moment. I’m still in ketosis and following keto foods, but I’m starting to put on weight, so I am guessing I’ve let too many carbs creep in. Wahhhhhhhhhh

Don’t let this stress you out! What has changed, for the better, with keto?

Also, sound a like you may be early in this process. Perhaps too early to fast?

Edited: I checked your profile - we started at the same time - July 2015. I would recommend not fasting if it’s making things difficult. Being a mama to little ones can be tough!

One more edit: have you had blood work lately? Over Christmas holidays I did not take my iron or Vit D. And it was rough! Within 24 hours of adding those back, I was feeling like myself again.

Thank you for your response. I’m just being a sad sack today!

6 months in doesn’t seem too fast! I’m thinking as well I did a trial at a local gym and went a bunch for 2 weeks around Christmas and new years. I think the combination has meant more carbs and more hunger from the exercise.

My blood work is usually fine, I’m usually borderline too high with both Vit D and iron - especially being summer here at the moment!

KCKO, I have to keep repeating the mantra!!!

Also, my periods and my skin are much better with keto, I have dermatitis - but it is only on my hands now. My asthma is gone, and I’m less tired. It is taking a lot to get the number on the scale isn’t the end all and be all. Us women have it drilled into our heads constantly!

@ketomarriage4life Those are wins to be celebrated!! Just take it one day at a time and don’t be too hard on yourself. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Life happens. You’ll be fine. No one died. You put on a few pounds. You’ll take off a few more.

You will be fine, because you didn’t die. You have to live life. Enjoy the journey with it’s ups and downs.

Part of parenting is sacrificial. You’re probably saving your children from years of bad eating. So, give yourself a break.

I didn’t think of it like that. Thanks heaps <3 <3 <3

My 4 year old has ketones measuring 2.1mmol, and my 2 year old has had his measured at 0.9mmol so I guess @peggaloon and I are doing something right.

Exactly. That puts a few extra pounds in perspective.

They could be Overdosing on Lucky Charms instead, with a skinny pa and ma. What good would that be?

Have u tried keeping the flavours simple? I really like boiled fresh cauli (drained)and then in separate pan take a big knob of butter & “sweat” an onion & some garlic. Then whiz it while hot with fresh Parmesan…something about those flavours make it taste like mash potatoes that a high end restaurant would serve (and TIP: if it’s runny–whack it under the broiler in a casserole dish for a few minutes.)
