Hi all,
does anybody here have experience with being on Keto and doing Mounjaro or Ozempic at the same time?
Any good results?
Any bad side effects?
were you also able to build muscle at the same time?
Curious as I’ve been on keto for about 4 years and went from 305 to 245, but then i’ve notice the carb creep and my cravings have come in BIG TIME!!
Would love to know anybody’s thoughts on this.
thanks in advance.
Keto and Ozempic or Mounjaro
You’d benefit a lot more by doing 3 months of pure carnivore to knock the cravings on the head forever rather than risk the extremely unpleasant side effects of those drugs.
I’ve heard of people doing keto while on these medicines, but for me I found it a little easier to add a few healthy carbs back to my diet and lower the fat a little, especially in the beginning while I was getting used to it. Too much oily or greasy food would not feel good. I am taking tirzepatide, the medicine in Zepbound and Mounjaro. I occasionally do a modified fast day or a few days of a fasting mimicking diet, but these days I wouldn’t eat a whole lot of fat at a meal very close to when I take the dose. You may have to experiment with how different kinds of food feel at first. Even with adding back some carbs, my blood glucose response and A1c improved.
The carb creep caused your cravings. You already know that. I would go back to your strick keto or even carni to reset.
I can vouch for the fact that wheat and sugar are my triggers to eat too much. As long as I stay away from that I can enjoy fruits and vegetables and even potatoes. But if I eat even a slice of bread that has any amount of table sugar then I am going to start eating to much and craving more. I also, intermittent fast, my standard is 16 hours a day without taking in any calories. I drink only unsweetened tea or water during my fasting time. My hard rules are nothing with calories from 6pm to 10am. But I admit I go as long as 18 to 20 hours 2 to 4 days a week. My other hard rules are no processed food, no fast food, no soft drinks not even diet soft drinks and absolutely no wheat.
I understand not wanting to go off keto, but I tend to think the best way to eat on these drugs is to limit fat and to eat plenty of protein. I’ve done keto on and off and am interested in all ways of eating. I’ve discovered that outside of keto, and especially if your goal is to maintain or gain muscle, many “healthy” diets will recommend close to 1 gram per lb of body weight, which is often a lot more protein than on keto. Keto is muscle sparing, but I’d question whether that would be true with the effects of the drug since one of the side effects is muscle loss. Also, the effects of these drugs on hormones are not necessarily conducive to remaining in ketosis.
I agree. And Anything that messes with our hormones is problematic.
And hey, nice to have you pop in again!
Have not tried GLP1s but I have experienced the keto weight gain due to carb creep. I ended up gaining quite a bit. I began to lose again through EFs and watching my carbs but then I switched to simply not eating past 5 or 6PM (note I go to bed at 1AM so not sure if that is too late for some people in terms of stopping eating). I find if I do that I do not have cravings at night at all. I may be hungry sometimes but hunger is much more manageable than carbs
