Keto and Kid Athletes

How many of you have experience with child athletes, specifically converting them to Ketogenic Diet?

For reference, my kid is a teen, 15, to be accurate, and is a hockey player. He’s not in need of losing any weight, in fact we’re looking to add 10 pounds of lean mass.

How did you manage the switch to keto, bonus points for split families!!!

I’d consider a TKD or CKD. That is, eat some carbs, sometimes. Higher protein might not hurt, either.

This is especially true because the transition to keto while exercising a ton takes a while. 6+ weeks probably. Maybe more. A transition with lowered but not keto level carbs might be easier.

I think there are body building forums that could help with this question, more than I could.

Is there an off season? If so, that would be the best time to transition. That’s about the limit of my advice.
