Hello, I am new here, but not to keto.
5 years ago I lost approx. 60 pounds. Recovering addict 22 years clean. I’m a replacer. I replaced drugs with food.
Fastforward life is great. Got happy the last year and regained 25.
Back on ketogenic way of life. Totally fat adapted because I lived a low carb lifestyle these last five years. Just started cheating.
Started Nov 23 and am in 92 days.
I’m tired, really tired. I’m never tired.
I’m sure it’s my intake.
I have always fasted 20:4 I eat once a day. One snack, coffee throughout the day.
This is nothing new.
Only thing to change is keto. Full throttle.

Started a multi vitamin and an extra D. Beginning a vitamin b complex additionally tomorrow.
Is this common? I’m good in all areas of Micros. My blood work is off the charts incredible.

The other issue… Only lost 12 pounds. Dropped almost three sizes though?
What in the heck is going on there?

Some believe it’s because I’m already fat adapted from living a pretty strict low carbs lifestyle for so long?
Just confused! The scale makes me physically sick. This keto experience is NOTHING like the last time.
Nothing is the same. Only thing to change is my age.

Any answers would be so appreciated.

No. More has changed.

  1. You are only 25 lbs up this time instead of 60. That’s a huge difference that will affect your initial loss rate.

  2. You’ve yo-yoed since then. So your insulin resistance may be higher.

  3. You started while low carb already so you can’t expect the same initial losses from water weight.

Also you’ve lost three sizes in three months. I think it’s you expectations that perhaps need readjusting more than your diet.

As for your diet. You say you have a snack and coffee throughout the day. Is the snack in the 4 hour window and are the coffees black? If not then you are still having insulin spikes outside your feeding window.

But most of all, you’re fine. 12 pounds is great. Keep calm and keto on.

That sounds like a possible electrolyte issue (i.e. “keto flu”)?

I usually treat it with some chicken broth or egg drop soup. Using lite salt (a combination of sodium and potassium) can help. Some people use keto-ade. Some recipes:

Does a blood test show you need these vitamins?

It’s absolutely possible. Just can’t find zero carb electrolytes.
The vitamins I’m taking for a few weeks loyally, are not helping one bit. I should be seeing some improvement taking them this long, nothing. My urine is also neon yellow. Which indicates that what’s not being used is being depleted naturally. I tried the Himalayan salt… Didn’t work. Not sure where else to go. Not stressed, getting sleep however it does feel like flu a little after I’m up for 6 hours straight through. I’m OK early on and then yeah, it does feel like keto flu.

You’re amazing! Thank you honey! Thank you! I think you’re right. It could be exactly the fact it’s less than half of what I needed in terms of weight loss. Great points. Not going on the scale. It messes with my head. Sick of falling in that trap. Avoidance is the only way for me to continue. I feel very blessed. Some people have it much harder than me. Looking at the positive today because there are many. Thank you darling

Hey Hap my blood work is great. I am a recovering addict 22 years and battled hepatitis c as well.
I fought it, and thankfully won. Cured out a year ago.
My liver function is back to normal. Blood work great.

Good for you for coming back and getting on the wagon again. I’m 49 and I’m doing one meal a day very strict keto. I do take potassium, magnesium, b complex, multivitamin, omega-3/6 fish oil, calcium, vitamin D, etc. every day with my one meal. Plus lots of pink Himalayan salt.

I’ve lost 95 pounds but I am getting more stalls now that I’m getting closer to my goal weight which I break by doing 48 hour fasts, generally one every three weeks.

Good luck and stick with it!

Just wanted to congratulate you on the HepC victory. I have a couple of friends who are finally clear of that as well. I know how they struggled for so long.

The struggle is real. I wasn’t sick because I got clean at the beginning of contact with that nightmare disease.
Thank God. However the cure is so easy, just expensive.
Life is a blessing everyday, thank you.
