Keto and dairy free

(Debbie Wolthuis) #1

Hi,

After working closely with my Naturopath I can’t have any dairy. When starting keto I tried using cream, milk and cheese, I have been in all sorts of trouble. We are investigating into the protein in cows milk. I can have coconut milk but not cows.

I want to know if there is anyone else that is doing this without dairy.

TIA

I have been doing keto dairy free. I do not have an allergy…just an intolerance.

I only use butter. I think i’m sensitive to cheese and milk

Check out Leanne Vogal’s Complete Guide to Keto.
It’s all dairy free. Though you will spend a lot on unusual ingredients as well as a lot of time on food prep.

I’ve being following the keto diet for over a year and I am dairy free due to allergy. I use coconut milk in recipes and drink milkadamia. I don’t use butter or ghee. I heard that ghee could be okay to consume but I don’t want to take any chances.

Leanne Vogel definitely is a good dairy free resource and Maria Emmerich has an entire dairy free keto cookbook. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

HWC is a prime suspect.

But no verdict yet.

I’m sensitive to dairy products as well. It was hard making the switch, but it is doable.

me too

Coconut cream is a solid substitute for almost any recipe requiring heavy cream. I’ve even used it in savory sauces and it doesn’t retain much coconut flavor if you let it simmer a while.

I am taking the plunge to eliminate butter. I bought a pound of organic cacao butter at the co op this morning and used a tbsp in my bpc

I have joined the diet doctor to help me with meal plans and recipes. I am also looking for other snacks I can eat.

This seems to be my trouble too. I was using lots of cream and cheese as go to Keto foods and while I felt better in some respects it made my eczema MUCH worse. So no dairy Keto it is :slightly_frowning_face: good thing I like coconut

Dairy makes me poop too much. However, that’s not going to push me to drink nut sweat.

Debbie, thanks for this thread. I did Maria Emmerich’s 30 Day Cleanse (dairy free) as my intro to Keto and discovered afterwards that my skin breaks out with dairy- you can definitely do dairy-free keto and have great food and be fine. My partner really missed milk in his tea- I found I don’t mind full fat coconut milk- and a product called nutpods were also good. They are a mix of almond and coconut milk. I’m trying a dairy-free keto ice cream recipe this weekend- fingers crossed!

Anyone done research into A2 versus A1 proteins in milk? I wonder if this is true and if so, how many people are affected by it.

See the following

I know there are better articles, but I’m on my phone, which is hard to use for this type of research.
