Hi all! So I’ve been doing keto at various levels(measuring macros/dirty keto/lchf) for about 2 years now. I’ve begun to suffer from osteo/arthritis in a few of my joints. My doc wants me to take 2 alleve 2x/day for 2 weeks…my question is- being on keto as well, I imagine will be hard on my liver…and also I do like to drink. Do you think it best that I abstain for the next 2 wks while talking the NSAIDs?

NSAIDS are bad news keto or not, take the 8hr arthritis tylenol if the pain is getting you and high dose turmeric for anti inflammatory side. The alcohol is a problem, it’s a known trigger for people with inflammatory issues and joint trouble. Arthritis, Gout, fibromyalgia etc.

Thank you. The Dr wants me to take for inflammation. Is the Tylenol arthritis an anti-inflammatory?

You should never take Tylenol and drink alcohol…NOT a good combination.

I did a little research and can only find studies that say keto is beneficial for liver function. That keto is anti-inflammatory and that people on ketogenic protocols have improved liver function. That being said, the use of NSAIDs is a problem whether your liver is healthy or not. This class of medications causes widespread die off of the good bacteria that inhabit our gut. This is detrimental for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is that an unhealthy microbiome causes inflammatory processes. Thus, taking the NSAID may lower inflammation in a person’s joints for a moment but it kills off a person’s gut flora for days after each dose and that causes more inflammation.
Maybe seek the help of a naturopath or other healer that focuses on natural remedies and palliative solutions.

I am really sorry that you are in pain. I don’t know what that’s like, though I can imagine. I am a woman and as such I do know pain. However, I don’t know what you are coping with and I hope you can find something that works.

I hope you find this helpful

It sounds like snake oil but fish/krill oil is supposed to help with joints and arthritis.
It sounds like a hippy but cannabis oil is supposed to help too.
Massage therapy, sauna, steamroom, jacuzzi, etc. may help too.
I think Tylenol, Aleve, or Advil are temporary bandaids and you don’t want to take them for chronic problems.

Yes I had taken one dose of 2 and then just read an article that NSAIDs kills gut flora… Which makes me very unhappy!! I do have tumeric and will begin taking that tomorrow instead. I will also cut down on alcohol!

If taking cannabis oil, make sure it is CBD oil. That is the element in pot that helps w/ pain.

Tylenol will help with pain, high dose turmeric and not drinking will help with inflammation. As will keto itself, which your doc probably isn’t giving any credit to. Higher dose Omega 3’s also make a noticeable difference in many people, I know it does for me.

Again thank you for the info…I sure wish pot was legal where I am… For a variety of reasons! But I’ll go with the tumeric and no alcohol for now and see how we do!
