6weeks in & my run times are slowly getting back to pre-Keto times. Not sure if it’s the fact Im carrying 7kgs less or moving towards fat adaption or a combination of both? Still find inclines very tuff on the legs though.
I was getting really tired of Runkeeper telling me I had just done my best 120th 10kms run!
Keto + 6weeks & finally getting back to pre-Keto run times!
congrats, ron. i’d imagine that it is indeed a combination of both! as a runner myself, i’ll tell you from first-hand experience that your run times will probably get even better in the coming months, provided you stay on track with this way of eating. i consider keto the perfect diet for runners trying to improve their stamina and endurance. after another month or so of following keto, consider running in a fasted state, if you haven’t done so already. your energy levels may very well be at an all-time high. good luck, and keto on, good sir
Thanks Alex, really appreciate the encouragement! Can you remember if your hill runs took a real hit when you were in the early stages of Keto?
Hill runs? I had to walk some. I was thinking this keto is not for me. I was also recovering from an ankle injury so I don’t know exactly what was what but it took me three months before I chugged up a hill and thought “I am back”.
Thanks Scott! I was beginning to wonder if I’d lost muscle as well? It’s really encouraging to know others have been on the same journey. How long did it take you to get back to “normal”? It seems like a relatively slow process.
i’m not a hill runner, per se. i just regularly run around my neighborhood. regarding energy, though… i definitely noticed a sharp dip after starting keto. i attribute this to the sudden cutoff of carbs, and my body not yet knowing how to properly utilize all the fat i was giving it in it’s place for energy. it took me about 5 or 6 weeks to become fat-adapted and feel like i was just about back at par with my pre-keto energy, and probably 2.5 to 3 months in total to really feel like i had way more energy than i could have ever imagined was possible, if i had to guesstimate!
The cellular adaptations involved often take six to eight weeks, but some people report it taking a lot longer before they noticed an improvement, while others who saw a quick adaptation report that they continued to improve for quite some time. I suspect the timing is entirely individual.
