Just Starting

(Angela Morris) #1

Hello, My name is Angi ! I am just getting starting and really don’t have too much information on what/how to do things but I have heard wonderful things and plenty of success stories! I’m trying to figure out how to calculate my macros and come up with a grocery list / recipes ! TIA

Macros:
<20g net carb per day
.5-1g protein / kg lean body mass (what you would weight with no fat at all) which is generally about 60-100g per day, varies by person
Fat to satiety

Keep it simple through the first few weeks like bunless burgers with fatty toppings like avocado or mayo, or keto casseroles.
Good recipe sites:

Avoud recipes like special ingredients like almond flour if you want at first, there are plenty of recipes which contain simple stuff but are still tasty

I weigh about 214 and am 5’6 my body fat is about 45% i would say. protein would be 90g? fats 129g?

Make this easy on yourself. Don’t worry about grams of fat. You may or may not need 90g of protein. Keep your protein portions down to the size of your palm for a while. Eat only green vegetable sides. No grains or fruits. Eat as much fat as you need to stay NOT Hungry for hours, though the adaptation process can take some time, so be patient. Get plenty of real salt. Read, read, read all the many bits of helpful information on this forum, and listen to the podcasts.

I second - Dietdoctor.com. They have a two week starting challenge - it comes with a shopping list and recipes to try. It makes getting started sooooo easy!

My strategy when starting was EBO: “Eggs and Bacon Only”.
I did that for 2 week during which I scoured websites for Keto recipes that are simple and look tasty.
I build myself a list of 5 or 6 quick go-to recipes to alternate between.
During the week I don’t have much time to cook and experiment, so that worked for me.

On the week-end I usually try something new.

Replying from email so I don’t know how I can tag the thread but you can search for:
“How to start Keto without getting bored or overwhelmed”
People there contributed their list of quick go-to recipes.
Maybe this can inspire you.

Welcome to the forums and success on your Keto journey
