Just got my Keto-mojo...question about levels

#1

Hi all! First post here!

TL;DR: Blood ketone levels went from .7 on day 2 to .3 on day 3. Possibly related to lunch time workout the day before?

I’ve been doing keto on and off for about 18 months. I’m F, 38, 5’7". Started out at about 205 (post baby #3). Lost 30lbs or so in 3 months. Since that time, I have been less strict, which means I’m staying right around there. I’m actually up a bit because I decided to take a keto break over the past couple of months.

ANYWAY. Decided to get a Keto-mojo because I’m very analytical and data driven. Knowing I get to test my blood the next day keeps me motivated to stay on track. It’s almost like a game.

Just restarted keto on Wednesday, the day after my meter arrived. I’ve been testing at about 10am…pre-food, but I do have coffee with a splash of cream, so technically not fasting. Here is what’s going on:

Wednesday: 10am- 0.3 (expected since it was my first day back on track)
Thursday: 10am- 0.7 (pretty much as expected), 2pm- LOW
Friday: 10am- 0.3 (WTF??), 2pm- 2.5 (?)

I was training for a half marathon and got a stress fracture, so I’ve been unable to work out for 3 weeks. Thursday at lunch I went to the gym and did squats/push-ups/sit-ups/etc. Anaerobic stuff (and I’m pretty sore today). I understand my 2pm reading, that makes sense. But what I’m not understanding is my reading this morning. I know mornings are often the lowest reading of the day, but a .3 would indicate I wasn’t even in light ketosis. Can anyone shed any light as to what’s going on? Dinner last night was 100% keto friendly (I just had the same thing for lunch and checked my glucose after- no spike whatsoever).

If you took a 2 month break from Keto, I would think it could take you several days to get back into ketosis.

Thanks for replying!
I had .7 the day prior, and I thought anything over .6 indicates ketosis? Maybe you’re right…maybe I didn’t truly reach it until just this afternoon.

My ketones keep bouncing around, too. I don’t really want to track what I eat… But I do try to be aware of what carbs I’m eating. I’m hoping to have more steady numbers after baby is born.
