Just finished my first 62 hour fast

fasting

I started out intending to do a fat fast, but I thought I would try using bone broth with butter to begin with and see if that would keep me from needing any additional fat to get through. This is my first experience with bone broth and my first impression was “Man, that was good”. So bone broth with butter twice a day was more than enough to keep me going. BUT, last night, the bone broth didn’t seem quite so appealing. It made me rather nauseous. I decided to stick it out one more day, but I couldn’t make myself drink the bone broth again today, so I went ahead and ended my fast. Anyone else have this experience with bone broth (or any other fat) used during a fast?

Never have had that reaction to bone broth, but maybe your body was telling you it didn’t need it. I’ve been doing my alternate day fasts with just black coffee, water and salt, and I can’t say I miss the broth. It’s certainly less work to prep for a fast!

Salt - I add 3 to 5 grams of salt to my beef bone broth and have at least one pint every day especially when fasting. I also add 1 quarter tea spoon Cumin seeds ground and 1 table spoon Un-pasteurised butter, some times adding beef fat as well to boost my fat intake.
I never have had any reaction to it and it is super yummy as a daily boost.
I suspect it got too cold whilst you drank it - reheat if too cool will stop any reaction.

Sometimes I find chicken broth more palatable than the beef. You might want to give it a shot to switch things up.

It could have been your insulin levels were low enough that you had full access to all your fat, and thus plenty of energy depending on how much fat you have.
I experienced the exact same thing on an egg fast (not a true fast, more a means of limiting protein) so I took it as a sign it was time to fast, and now I’m 24 hours in.
Next time cut out the butter and broth and stick with salt and water and see how you feel. You might have enough body fat to not need it.
