Just can’t get sick

New to the forum. Started keto Dec 17. Down 40lbs.
So, I recently realized I haven’t had as much as a sniffle since I started. I have always been pretty healthy, maybe got a little fluffier from 32yoa to 38yoa. I live in the MidWest where the cold and flu season is brutal. I’m in public service dealing with swing shifts, dealing with lots of people who are sick and lots of sick Co-workers.
I’m a faithful listener to the Podcasts, and hear a lot about the heath benefits.
My question is: Do most people see a strengthening of their general immune system? Or did I just luck out this season? (Knock on wood)

Thanks for any insight.

I work in an elementary school health room. Lots of bodily fluids. Never got much of anything. Something over Christmas break, that’s it. Who knows!

You had to jinx yourself didn’t you!

Cough (I haven’t had a sniffle in 6 months through Europe and the US) cough - nothing to see here, move along.

I work in a Pharmacy. I see hundreds of sick people everyday. And yet nothing. Not a sniffle whilst keto. It could also be a coincidence. I would be interested to hear more reports.

Hubby had Strain A in Jan. Of course, when you have a sick man in the house for 3 solid weeks of coughing, wheezing, running fever, ickk you get the picture…although I did remove myself to my studio (separate room/same house) I managed to dodge that bullet and get him well! I chalked it up to mindful hand washing and a small ton of paper towels!

When I first started keto, I got sick immediately, and then couldn’t shake it. I’m a teacher of kids with severe disabilities who cough and sneeze in my face, along with a lot of other exposures. But recently I added a lot more fat to my keto diet, got my calories up to a healthy range, and now I shook off the bug and I’m staying healthy. It has been a learning curve learning to put so much fat in my diet.

About 8 years ago, I had right sided pneumonia twice over one winter season. Since then, I have gotten frequent right sided lung infections (one a month during the winter, often with associated pleuritis that hangs on long after the lung infections clear up).

Since I started eating ketogenically in September 2017, I have only had one lung infection (associated with a period of high stress). Incidentally, when I had my blood work done in January, my vitamin D 25-hydroxy levels were the highest I’ve ever seen them (87.6) even though I had stopped supplementation. My previous level was 76 while supplementing 15,000 IU daily. Higher levels of serum vitamin D might be related to a reduced risk of developing URI’s.
