Just broke 200 first time in 35 years

(Bob) #1

242 when I started Keto in March. I weighed myself this morning at 199. First time in 35 years I’ve been under 200. I don’t know if I can celebrate though as I’m on day 5 of a 9 day fast. Does the 199 count if it occurred during an extended fast? Also I got stretch marks on my belly now. Anyone know if they will eventually disappear?

Congrats! That is an awesome milestone. Of course it counts.

Congrats.

Change your name to Alice, since you’re living in One-derland (applies to any weight that starts with a 1).

Sorry, but I lack the expertise to comment on the stretch marks.

Congrats !!! Way to go !
I can’t wait to be there.
After 35 years you have every right to celebrate.
Who cares if you get back over a pound or 2 after breaking the fast.
Soon you’ll be under 200 … permanently.

I know the skin has an awesome ability to stretch and tuck itself back so given time, a large amount of ‘hanging’ skin will go away.
But unfortunately, as far as I know ‘stretch marks’ are permanent… and a constant reminder to never go back.

Some surgery can probably remove some of the more affected areas, but I’m not familiar with that.

There are some topical treatments that you can pick up off the shelf at pharmacies that apparently reduce the appearance of stretch marks. I haven’t used any, so can’t recommend a product in particular. Fasting may assist. Like scars, they will improve in colour (redness will dissipate) and size over time.

As for the weight loss - CONGRATULATIONS - awesome effort!! Bet you’re feeling great!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I like to think that you are 35 years younger!

Stretch marks - who cares! Don’t let them bother you. They are tough to fade (but do on their own). Perhaps consider them a badge of honour in testament to your hard work and good fortune in learning of this Way Of Eating.

Congrats on the sub 200, that’s fantastic. For the stretch marks my recommendations would be Bio Oil its a pink oil that gets great reviews (lots of pregnant women use it) I haven’t used it, but know lots of people who have. Personally I really like Decleor Prologene Gel, I have used it for fine lines around the eyes, but many use it for stretch marks

They aren’t stretch marks… they are tiger stripes!!! Also, remember you don’t have to reward yourself with food!

Here are a few Treat 'Yo Self ideas:

New Clothes
Throwing out clothes that don’t fit anymore (it’s a great feeling)
Take a day off of work - and go for a hike! Because you CAN!
Visit a museum
Buy a new book (or go to the Library)

Other suggestions?!?!

Be creative - you deserve a reward for being awesome - make sure it fits in-line with your new lifestyle & WOE.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I’m not gonna worry about the tiger stripes and love being in 1derland. I’m flying out to NYC in the morning for a week off. Sunday will be 9 days completed on my fast if I make it. Can’t wait for the dozen oysters and clams with lots of drawn butter for my reward. My first extended fast was 8 days and I needed a lot of advice. This second 9 day fast is a lot easier now that I knew what to expect. Thanks to all for the below 200 lbs comments. That really made me feel good today. Number 9 number 9…

YAY! I hope to get there too! You’re a great inspiration!!

This is wonderful, just lovely - remember to remain extra Vigilant. It’s far too easy to regain- all the best and I’m glad you’re taking control of your health.

(Jamy Head) #12

Congrats! You rock! And are an inspiration to rest of us.

On the marks and skin you can listen to Tim Ferriss episode 91 I beleive where he interviews Charles Poliquin at the 15:00 minute mark he talks about how he treats stretch marks and loose skin.

(Steve) #14

Congrats.
I hope to join you some day soon.

(Siobhan) #15

Congrats!!! I remember that feeling.

As for stretch marks I have found that mine have faded from red/pink to silvery and really only visible when light hits at a certain angle.
I also dont really mind them anymore. All they really say is that I used to be different than I am.

I think fasting has largely helped with keeping skin pretty tight - my stomach is significantly smaller and only a little bit of wrinkle. That might be my age though (21) as I seem to be one of the younger ducklings around these parts.

Congrats

Guys
I just wanted to tell someone that I am today also under 200lbs for the first time in 20 years, having lost a quarter of my body weight over the last 8 months. Woooohooo!

I am a newbie to keto (I am soaking up The Dudes podcasts every day!), and came to keto through fasting.

Thanks to everyone posting on here for the keto knowledge and practical insights. I have only scratched the surface of this, but I think keto and fasting is it, it’s the solution to being fat.

And I can have bacon! :grinning:
Cheers
Alec

Congratulations!! I’m so looking forward to 1derland again. Maybe later this year I can join you.
