Just a little discouraged

This is my sixth day doing keto. I still have the guilty feelings of eating some of the foods because all my life I have tried to avoid these. I just don't know if I am doing this right. I am eating <20 carbs per day, but not sure if I am eating too much protein and not enough fat. My fear is not losing weight. I need to get back into my work pants and not feel mashed in them....how soon might I feel like this is working? And if they keep feeling tighter, I know I am going to regret even trying this! Does any one else out there feel this way? And am I just being paranoid? Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Yes i think you are just being paranoid  You can calm down. If you eat right (5%-10% carbs 20% protein and 70-75% fat) than you won’t have any problems with losing weight. Try to track your macros for a week (you have a few apps on the phone for this). You will get even better results in first few weeks of this diet (because of the water weight), so this will encourage you to stay on keto… hope i was helpful.
I wish you luck!

Thanks for your support. I guess I want this to work quicker than it does. I will try to hang in there!

It’s unlikely your work pants will feel tighter unless your macros are off, and you think you’re eating keto but too many carbs sneak in and you end up both taking in too many calories and not being in keto. This can happen surprisingly easily if you eat commercial food and don’t pay attention to the labels.

For example, if you were to get a subway chicken sub without the bun, you’d think that was all protien salad and fat - but I believe subways ‘chicken’ is actually 50% soy - there goes like half your days carb quota and you wouldn’t know. Those sauces are usually loaded with sugar too.

The thing is, carbs cause you to retain salt in the kidneys, and that salt causes you to retain water. So if you carefully keep your carbs real low, that salt gets flushed, and the water weight falls away. Hence taking in extra salt - it’s going to keep being flushed so you need more to feel ok.

Try installing myfitnesspal on your phone like the last poster said - it’ll help you get ahold of whats real until you learn to eyeball it for yourself, then you can let up on the research, counting and label reading a lot because you’ know whats what.

Thanks for the tips…I know I definitely am not eating too many carbs…no counting them in protein and fat, correct? Or am I not reading all the info correctly. However, definitely eating <20 carbs per day…my notion is that maybe too much protein and not enough fat, but I am going to try to adjust that starting yesterday. Thanks for all the support! It’s greatly appreciated!

If you give us a typical day of eating we might get a better idea of how to help you. 6 days isn’t very long, keep at it!

Yesterday I had 2 fried eggs w/3 pcs bacon. 20 almonds; 3 oz of hamburger with 1/2 oz pepper jack cheese and 2 Tbsp sour cream; lettuce salad with 1/4 cup cubed ham, 1/2 oz shredded cheese w/ Waldens Farms dressing; and another 1 oz cheese…that’s it for yesterday.
