Hi all,

I m really curious to know if i can eat high carb food in very very low quantity…
Like white rice just 2 spoon… ie. 1.5 g of carb.
I have 2 little kids and they force me to taste the food what they eat… i avoid mostly but sometimes i do taste just 1-2 bites of rice or bread or small bite of cake…

Thanks

As long as you keep your overall carb intake low then I would think that a little high carb isn’t an issue. Just make sure it’s at a time when you are eating, otherwise it’ll make an extra insulin spike, which is counterproductive.

If it’s real food and not processed junk, then a small amount is not going to hurt you. I will have a spoonful of potatoes or rice occasionally. I used to love these things and to be honest, they don’t taste as good as they used to. I take this as a sign that my body doesn’t want or need a lot of starch in my life any more.

As long as one bite of rice here and there over the course of weeks doesn’t become one serving of rice over weeks that then turns into one carb meal a day and so on. That’s how I fell off the wagon years ago. Slowing adding in carbs but back then there weren’t ways to measure ketosis so you just had to wait on the scale to catch up and tell you if it was having an effect.

But no, tasting your kids food in small amounts, if you’re still seeing benefits and remain in ketosis, should be fine.

I think the biggest issue here is not the actual few grams of carbs.

It is the potential trigger effect.

In this case, you really have to be self-aware.

If having “just 2 bites” doesn’t cause you any issue - go for it.

If having “just 2 bites” sometimes causes you to finish your kids leftovers potentially followed by a “oh well, I’ll make this a cheat day” then it isn’t really “just 2 bites”.

Honestly, your kids would rather have you healthier, happier and around longer than getting your reaction from eating their food.

Triggers! they are real! Co-workers bday was yesterday and we got cake. I had a slice which was half of a half of a half. So small that two bites in and it was finished. I hope that doesn’t trigger anything else!

Keep your insulin low and carbs under 20g

One way to keep the insulin response from high carb foods under control is to include fiber and fat… and avoid protein

Carb + fiber = low insulin
Carb + fat = slow insulin
Carb + fiber + fat = slow and low insulin
Carb + protein = very high and long insulin

The advice in all these posts is excellent. While the amount of glucose a couple of small bites of rice will add to your bloodstream won’t be a problem, especially as part of a larger meal, you have to know for yourself whether the taste of the rice might trigger a binge or not.

A couple of things to bear in mind that might be helpful: first, you are entitled to do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. If you come to the decision that even two bites of rice is not a good idea for you, you are entitled not to eat the rice. On the other hand, you may have reasons for eating two bites of rice that make that the better choice for you, and you are entitled to do that. Just be clear with yourself.

Second, we can always have more of something, but never less. So if you are going to feel deprived by denying yourself something, remember that you can always eat more—as much as you like, in fact—tomorrow. Today, have only a little bit, and tomorrow the field is wide open.

As a sugar addict, I can tell you I would be off to Dunkin’ Donuts the moment I decided I could never ever have any sugar again, but if I promise myself all the glazed doughnuts I want tomorrow, I can manage not to have any today.

Thank u soo much…
I have always been carb and sugar addict and have done stupid things like eating 10 chocolates in 1 go, thinking will never buy any again…

Been on keto for almost 3 months now but believe not yet fat adapted…
I still have 13 kgs to lose to reach my target weight.
My kids are just 4 and 2 yrs… its so difficult to say no when they want me to taste or share their joy of happy food.
Honestly , i avoid sugar totally but little carb here n thr happens…
Im the only 1 on keto in my family that makes it more difficult… i prepare carb food for all and then for me keto meal…
Initially, i use to cry and thought of giving up 1000 times…

Thankfully i didn’t…
Im in my happy space and never faced insulin spike but yes slow runner and not fat adapted yet… wonder if this is stopping me…

Thanks everyone for the support… love this forum

To use a recent example

For me, went to the movies last week, was offered some of those cookie dough bites

I’m most cases, I would decline or just lol
Many know my WOE

I said ok, so I ate JUST 2 BITES/PIECES”
So tiny are these sugar dough morsels
Keep in mind, I’m well fat adapted
It Tasted like pure sugar crystals. Not good. Gross

However, within minutes, I was so freaking hungry!!
My hunger spiked fast
I didn’t want sugar necessary…Just anything. Ok
I wanted a donut
Not use to this :flushed:
Yes, I was fasting. So a factor I am sure

Thankfully, I had my keto stash baggie of pink salt
A nice go to
Keto First Aid kit I mean
