Joint pain

(Rachel) #1

I’ve been doing keto for about 2 months and it has been going really well until about a week ago. I started getting really bad knee pain…wakes me up😣 It started getting worse the last 2 days my ankles an wrist are hurting too. I’m having a hard time going up and down stairs. The wrist pain was sudden and quite bad last night. Am I missing something? I’m 40 and have lost 7lbs.

I have had bad knee pain and really bad pain in my left shoulder (previously dislocated as a child) off and on during Keto. I find that 1/8 tsp pink Himalayan salt under my tongue regularly first thing in the morning along with additional doses as needed (especially during extended fasting) helps a lot. Seems weird, but it works for me!

Search joint pain here on the forums, there are a lot of good ideas already out there about why this may have suddenly started for you.

But for me what resolved my joint pain before and after Keto was 1) gelatin/collagen powder 2) MSM powder 3) hyaluronic acid.

How are you dosing these supplements?

I put a tablespoon of water soluble collagen in my tea or coffee at meal time because it’s protein and I don’t like to use it during a fast, up to two tbs a day. I take the MSM powder (as dosed by the scoop in the container, sorry i don’t have it in front of me) in a small amount of water and wash 100 mg (I think) hyaluronic acid pills down with it. It’s a little bitter. I don’t have to do this as often since I went Keto and lost weight, but if I overdo my workout, this sets me right.

I can double check those measurements when I get home tonight.

I should mention I suspect I have a genetic collagen deficiency that makes my joints too mobile and this regimen has helped with that.

Thanks, I’ll give these suggestions a try…

I started glycine based on a thread on here for general health and it seems to help a minor knee pain I have. However I have noticed that when I stop it due to a fast my knee pain seems to come back stronger then before. You can do a search for glycine there is a long thread on it

Hmm… I also supplement glycine. I take 3000 mg about 1/2 to 1 hour before bedtime. This may have also contributed to my joint pain relief.

Thanks, this information helps! I’m gonna do some reading.

I get knee pain or chronic pain in my thumb to the point where I can’t type with my one hand if I over eat protein or red meat. Keeping my protein moderate or swapping to some pork / chicken for a day or 2 helps reduce/remove the pain.

I am having migratory joint pain. Apparently I’ve been hard on my body in my life if this is releasing toxins. 48yo F. I’ve been on and off Keto since Nov 1 and did well the. Over Christmas got off. I’ve been really great this month and finally merging my body back on Keto but this time my body hates me. Wrists started hurting , then shoulder blades, then the next day fingers and shoulder joints. I have a slight fever and trying to get through this. I will try the salt, the mct oil, the lemon in warm water but if this doesn’t stop I’m going to head to the doctor and she will probably tell me to get off. This is the ONLY thing that works and makes sense for me. I’ve lost 25 lbs all together…sad.
