It's worth it!

I just want to say that despite the seemingly constant struggle (for me) to stay keto, it’s totally worth it. There will always be occasions, social pressures, and easy excuses, but the rewards outweigh the difficulties. I’ve gone from 235 to 205 in 2 months. I feel better and look better. I’m not embarrassed to tuck a shirt in. I need to go buy new clothes because mine are too loose. I get compliments daily. Running and other exercise have become much easier. I can’t imagine going back to the way I was before keto.

I suspect people don’t mean it when they say “It’s easy.” I suspect that what they mean is that it’s hard to continue but impossible to stop.

Great work! You must feel so thrilled! I started keto the day after Easter. It took me three days to get into NK and I have remained so since, even while in vacation. As of today I am down 20 lbs!! Not easy but not feeling deprived like a diet and you nailed it, impossible to stop!

As a person who has tried the majority of diets over my lifetime, eating this way is definitely my favorite choice. Why? So many reasons, but one big reason is that I get to indulge in rich, delectable foods whenever I am hungry. I get to eat all I want until I am full. I have boundless energy, and I never have to worry about getting low blood sugar if I go too long without a meal. Most days I don’t pay any attention to the clock. I can go hours and hours on one meal.

Compare that to the Nutri System diet (standard low calorie, low fat), which my sibling is on. She pays $$$ for their food, which consists of 3 servings a day of 1/2 cup of some kind of protein. (That’s correct; 1/2 cup is barely enough to hold in your hand). To that she gets to buy her own vegetables and eat them to fill her up. She’s always hungry, and she’s been depressed for months. She still believes in what she’s doing, so can’t help her there.

Which diet would you rather be on?

I’ve been keto for exactly 4 years now, I’m 54.

  • Feel great
  • Lots of energy
  • Higher HDL
  • Lower triglycerides
  • No inflammation
  • At my high school weight of 165
  • Happy

Honestly I am comparing it to no diet at all, which is where i tend to revert to when not putting in effort. There’s quite a challenge to finding new and interesting foods. Particularly when eating out (which I do for at least 1 meal a day). It’s certainly easier than other diets, but I think calling it easy is doing a disservice to the effort we all put in to get where we are.

WHat choices are out there for a type 2 diabetic not responding to meds or not able to stand some of the side effects of the meds? I do keto because I like my toes …attached.
