How disappointing that erythritol causes me to look pregnant and provides as much discomfort as being 39 weeks pregnant. I went completely without it yesterday and even ate Mexican food and had zero bloat. I’m going to try Stevia. Since most of you have already done the research can you save me some time and money and tell me what brand is safest? By safest I mean which ones don’t have hidden carbs or loaded with non-keto fillers.
It's official - Erythritol Causes Bloat. Moving to another sweetener
I can’t seem to find one that isn’t an erythritol bend. Maybe I can find some monk fruit liquid.
This looks safe but a little pricey:
Grosh if they could ever figure out how to mass produce this stuff they would solve the diabetes and obesity epidemic for the entire world?
Type 5 Mogrocides are like 400 or 500 times sweeter than table sugar which means you need just a little teeny tiny, itsy bitsy bit to sweeten massive quantities of stuff? Would have 0 effect on blood sugars. Not only that it has health benefiting and longevity properties that are out of this world.
image linkI wouldn’t mind paying that much especially if it works for me and it looks like a little can go a long way. I think I have located some Lakanto monk fruit liquid close to me. I’ll give it a try today and let you know how I like it. Thanks for the advice.
Not for my husband, it makes his gut go crazy everytime.
I think we just have to try what works for us, there is no 1 fits all.
I am a fan of liquid stevia, I’ve used three brands and all are fine for me and DH. We use Swerve for baked goods without issues as well. The OP might not do as well as we do with that.
Any dried sweetener is probably going to have dextrose or something similar added for anti clumping.
I’ve tried them all and I think Swerve is the best tasting. They have granular, powdered (which is AWESOME for making buttercream fatbombs or whipped cream) and they now have brown sugar which is absolutely amazing. I used it in a mug cake the other day and omg what a difference. It tastes just like reg brown sugar
Be aware that most other sweeteners, such as monkfruit and stevia, have very distinctive aftertastes of their own. You may or may not like them - I personally can’t stand them. Erythritol and xylitol have by far the most neutral, sugar-like taste (IMHO). It’s a matter of trial and error, I’m afraid.
I tried allulose and it bloated me the same as Erythritol. I’ll keep experimenting. I don’t like the idea of using sucralose for no other reason than it’s a chemical. But when I make Italian sodas with sugar free syrup that is made with sucralose it has no bad side effects. I know it’s not safe when heated to high temps so I can’t bake with it. It’s only Keto when used in liquid form with no fillers like Maltitol. This might be my ticket to reduce my consumption of keto treats and focus on better stuff.
Ha, the Erythritol doesn’t bloat me, It Explodes out of me. Learnt that twice now once sucking on some Erythritol sweetened tiny fruity candy / sweets / lollies, that caused me to spend hours in a shopping centre toilet and the second time when I was at home after adding it into some berry jelly ( the pack said stevia but it was 99.5% Erythritol instead ). It seems to be a common con job. I find stevia in powdered leaf form is fine, but it has an after taste, but pure stevia liquid, which is clear, is perfect for just about every use. Its in tiny bottles, quite expensive, but very concentrated ( and No tummy anythings )…
