It's Happening!

(What The Fast?!) #1

I’m finally starting to understand what “to satiety” means. We had an amazing dinner last night - beef carpaccio, steak tartare, some vegetable sides (asparagus, bruise sprouts, spinach) and shared a ribeye. I had a small breakfast and skipped lunch because I knew we’d be eating well that night.

This morning (down a pound, I might add), we are about to head out for a 30-40 mile bike ride and I could barely drink half my coffee (with some MCT oil). I usually make bacon/eggs before a ride but today only had about an ounce of avocado and am stuffed. If we weren’t about to ride, I wouldn’t have tried eating anything - I’m still a little gun shy to try doing a long ride without eating something.

Aaaaanyway!!! I’m so excited that my satiety signals are finally kicking in! I have another dinner at a steakhouse tonight for my b/f’s birthday and we’ll probably just have a small post-ride snack or fast til dinner.

Yaaayyyy for satiety!!!

(2 months into keto - I’m going to start posting length of time in keto at the bottom of posts, I think it will help new people who are learning about fat adaptation.)

I think putting a time stamp on is a great idea. Congrats on the epiphany too :smile:

I’m so happy for you!!

Why don’t you try some shorter rides first without eating? Ive heard that someone that is fat adapted has about 60,000 fat calories that can be utilized to fuel them during exercise, fasting, etc, even someone who is lean (with the exception of someone with ultra low body fat), where as a sugar burner only has about 2,000 calories from stored glucose their body can use, which is why you see alot of athletes during races drinking or eating that squeezy stuff or else they will bonk.

I actually listened to the Ketogenic Athlete podcast on my ride today! Ended up cutting it short and doing a 28 mile ride - my legs were crushed from back to back workouts and I think I was super dehydrated - the workouts I did Thur/Fri were both heated Pilates at 95 degrees + 45% humidity…I thought I drank enough water to compensate but apparently not! I had two Salt tablets on the ride plus Nuun and had to stop for a Powerade Zero!

@Sheri_Knauer yes! I just bought a trainer too, so I can try some training rides in the house while doing extended fasts. Based on how I’m feeling, I think I’ll be riding fasted in no time!!

@Fiorella Thank you!!!
