It's crazy how you can have zero CAC score, clean Carotid Ultrasound and at the same time have Calcification in carotid siphons on CT scan!

Do you know if Carotid ultrasound correlates with carotid siphon calcification on CT?

I started keto diet in March of 2016. In November 2016 I got CAC score of zero. About a year from keto start I got carotid ultrasound in June of 2017, in which the final report was, “Normal no narrowing or abnormalities in the carotid arteries”. Then in November of 2018 I had Maxillofacial CT scan and in the part of the report it said " Atherosclerotic calcifications are noted in the bilateral in carotid siphons". I got really scared!

Do you know if that is different area where it wouldn’t be visible on carotid ultrasound? I’m not sure if I should blame the diet or if this calcification was already there? I have another Carotid Ultrasound scheduled on Jan 23rd 2019. In the mean time I’m afraid to eat fat now!

I also posted this on FB LMHR, from some replies it may be that the calcification was already there. Here is the reply from one member, “Carotid siphon” is a non anatomical term that usually applies to the intra cranial carotid just proximal to the bifurcation into the anterior and middle cranial arteries. It would be visible on the CT but outside of the view of ultrasound, which is limited to the portion of the carotid artery in the neck."

If anyone knows anything about that stuff please post!

Saturated dat has nothing to do with calcification of arteries. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

I don’t know about the calcification, but I do know that taking vitamin K2 supplements can make it go away. At least, that’s what I’ve been reading.
