It is everywhere...but

misinformation truly

watched a little 1/2 hr sitcom on tv.

old grandfather has gout and it was a funny play on it and then it was ‘all about what he eats’ and OF course his ‘steak’ was his ruin, til the son came on and said, it ain’t all your steaks Dad, it is those donuts and booze and pancakes you inhale before ya eat the steak.

wow…that was alot more out there with the son focusing on the sugar intake before the fat.

usually it is ‘don’t eat that steak’, drink skim milk, no eggs or butter, or how darn ya eat a chicken wing cause of that FAT but this time they threw the ‘ick sugar food horror’ of todays food intake into the mix.

for me, in a very small way, that was an improvement kinda?? Kinda??

lol

at least it wasn’t ALL about the steak and bacon and more, the donuts and the pancakes and the other got a hit also which is nice to see I guess.

just a chat, maybe it is being ‘more seen’ out there in a smaller way finally?

I don’t know I liked that it wasn’t all about the ‘how dare you eat that fat and ya got gout’ from it…or me just in some wishful thinking maybe  that more about sugar is coming into play?

oh well it was a small little limited tv sitcom comedy show but sugar was mentioned as more evil in a way than the steak so I GUESS I felt a bit better :unicorn:

Sugar is blamed since long (for various health related things, not necessarily for gout), that part is okay…
Meat and carbs, that is trickier. Few people talk against “healthy carbs”. Booze and sugar, they are easier targets. Still, yay. (I googled a little bit, it seems multiple things can cause problems resulted in gout…? And certain sugars are there.)

I still can’t comprehend how anyone can have problems with steak when it’s about the diet of a modern human… But I never understood this thing against red meat, still don’t do. That seems natural food for even omnivores, it has good nutrients… Sure, too much isn’t good but it’s true for everything, water, oxygen, exercise, sleep… Let alone food.
If I overate meat after carbs, I would blame the carbs and I would be right, actually… (But I wouldn’t overeat meat to the point it would cause problems. I can’t do this with protein.)

I think there’s a lot that’s wrong. Everything you both mentioned, and things like “healthy” fat. Exactly what is that? If you’re eating meat, you’re getting it. But other than to avoid things we never ate, such as seed oils, I’m not sure exactly what a “healthy” fat is. I don’t think olive oil is necessary “healthy” for instance.

But you see things that are wrong all the time. Saw something from The American Heart Association or someone similar that was complaining about the “saturated fat” in donuts. Ah, what? Those are cooked in seed oils, with relatively low amounts of saturated fat. Soybean oil is about 58% PUFA and 16% saturated fat.

It’s endemic.

I agree. There’s a lot that’s wrong. Healthy fat is fat that hasn’t oxidized.

Cheap Seed oils are also added to animal feed to fatten the animals since meat sells per lb/kg.

Corruption is endemic. We must learn to pick the best foods for ourselves.

Whenever I see reference to “healthy fats” it annoys me. 99% of the time, they mean fat in fish, seed oils, and olive oil… this is the CW. The seed oils are poison, the others are OK IMHO.

But they definitely don’t mean fat from meat. But shaking the world out of its collective slumber on what constitutes healthy eating is still very much a work in progress. I think we are getting somewhere, but there is a long way to go. The vegan/vegetarian lobby still has a lot of (and some would say increasing) power and influence.

saw a food store chain commercial.

ugh

the fatter old granny cooking cupcakes for the kids and making a cheese and cracker platter plate.

young guy cooking pasta for his meal using a fancy Italian recipe book.

definitely they used a fatter overweight young lady on an exercise bike and then shows her making a fruit smoothie, cutting up banana and strawberries with milk…omg!

shows a young mom whipping out cereal to eat and feeding her kid cereal cause she is working online from home and busy…but time enough to make that cereal for both.

tag line comes on…we love feeding you and have all you need to suit your needs. (or something like that)

I tell ya guys, I am gonna have to stop watching tv altogether HAHA
this commercial irked me to no end

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

John Harvey Kellogg has a lot to answer for. The irony is that it doesn’t take all that much longer to whip up a batch of bacon and eggs.

However, you do have to stand there and make sure it doesn’t burn. Makes it hard to text . . .

yea so true.

plus those working from are supposed to be glued to their computers but in the end can’t we multi task with this big ol’ tech today. computer on the refridge while we get those bacon and eggs and fry them up but have our ear plugs in and function?

omg I am so glad I ain’t that person doing all that mess LOL

I think ‘that image’ of the bigger overweight young gal on an exercise bike making that fruit smoothie irked me the most…everyone else in the commercial ‘got to eat’ but not her! She was on a ‘diet’ and it was obvious and it just pained me to see that like that displayed for full view of what does not work…ugh

So she ate sugar, mostly. Makes perfect sense, right?
sigh

I don’t watch tv since 20 years but now fanfics irk me… They have so odd ideas about humans and diets sometimes… And it’s unavoidable as they follow trendy ideas and my opinion is quite different from that (not very rigid but theirs are when say BS as some general truth for all humans).

Yup! On an exercise bike working hard and then drinking down a big ol’ glass of sugar :alien:

Oh indeed, the best combo further improved, use your muscles and nurture your body with too little food afterwards and that’s sugar.
Who needs protein? Or fat? Nevermind they are essential while sugar isn’t… (Many people prefer them for exercise, though. Maybe not THAT important for some little cycling from a couch potato. Of course the girl could be more athletic, I did tons of hiking when fat but maybe that’s not the typical scenario.)

And yes, the milk has protein and fat. Hell, even fruits have protein and fat. Just usually negligible. The milk has very little. More sugar than protein.

By the way don’t normal people get super hungry from fruits? Surely not everyone but many of us do. Maybe the milk helps in some cases and the banana is better than some acidic watery stuff…
Oh well, it may even help her if she eats better for their other meals. Maybe he gets so much joy and sweetness from her smoothie that she can forget about donuts. It easily can be contraproductive, though…
But I saw so much sweet stuff in low-cal girl diets so maybe it is for making them thinking/feeling they are not totally miserable while low-key starving? (I am so mean. Sometimes it may be helpful for some. But the average girly diet and the average fat girl, I don’t see the compatibility.)
