Hi all! I started keto 4 days ago. Im 23 years old female and overweight big time! I decided to try keto once a friend told.me.about it but she doesnt have a lot to lose like me. I weighed 297 four days ago and today I weigh exactly 280. This is the only thing that has ever worked me. But my question is, is this normal for the first few days?17 lbs in 4 days ?
Is this normal? 17lbs in 4 days
That can be normal, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose and you are coming from eating a SAD (standard american diet) way of eating. Those 17lbs are water weight. Once you drop the water weight, the weight loss will slow down, you may even stall for a bit while your body is healing from any metabolic issues you may have. Everyone is different in the way their body reacts to eating keto. Not everyone drops a lot of weight right away, some do. Just stay the course, make keto your way of eating from now on, don’t get discouraged when/if you hit a stall, take measurements because you can be losing fat and inches without actually losing weight, and Keep Calm and Keto on (KCKO). Keto on and you will see results.
Thank you so much for your quick.response. the only reason I weighed myself today and realized I had dropped 17 pounds was because I couldn’t fit into a ring someone gave me anymore. It just fell off. I weighed myself 3 times to make sure of what I was seeing lol
Congrats! Yes, like you it seems, I retain water SO badly. I can literally lose (or gain) 10 pounds or more in a couple of days! I love Keto because I am so much more comfortable without all that swelling and I love seeing the scale drop so fast - water weight or not. Also, Epsom salt baths are my favorite…besides getting needed magnesium, it can help suck out any excess water.
It’s not uncommon, the more overweight you are the faster you’ll loose at first, the biggest initial losses are water but don’t let that discourage you that’s an awesome way to start!
You’re probably burning fat right now. Glucagon secretion has begun. It was necessary for glycogen depletion and continues on with Lipolysis.
