Is this food ok to eat on Keto?

I wanted to buy dark chocolate in the store. The only available dark chocolate was 90% by Lindt chocolate. However it lists sugar in the ingredients. Is it still keto since it’s 90% or no?

If you can eat it and remain in ketosis then yes…

I sometimes have 90% chocolate as a treat and its fine.

All chocolate will have carbs and most will have sugar of some kind.

Anything is ok to eat on keto. You can eat a sugar packet if it doesn’t kick you out of ketosis or cause cravings; it only has 4g of carbs. The better question is whether or not it’s a good idea.

I think the answer to that question depends a great deal on how far along into keto you are. If it’s your first 8-12 weeks of keto, and you’re still getting fat adapted, I think it’s a good idea to avoid anything that resembles what got you into this mess in the first place. The more you crave something the more you should avoid it. Don’t buy any food with more than one ingredient. Keep yourself under 20g carbs a day. Avoid foods like keto pizza, keto fudge, keto bread for the time being.

Once you’re 100% fat adapted, and keto feels completely effortless, that’s the perfect time to experiment with things like keto pizza or dark chocolate. You know what feeling amazing and being craving free feels like. You have a baseline to compare against.

That’s my two cents but everyone is different.

Cocoa butter is the keto alternative.

You can find 100% cocoa bars in the baking isle, then you can do what you want with it, without the added sugar.

Still quite carby though. cacao has its own carbs…

I used to treat me to a piece of 90% chocolate a day. 14g carbs in 100g means that a piece (1/5th of a bar) has about 3 grams of carbs, which is well within my carb targets.

However, cocoa is high in oxalates (as are some other keto foods like almonds and spinach) and some people have oxalate issues. If you may be oxalate sensitive then stay away from chocolate. Second best way is to eat a magnesium supplement with the chocolate as it binds oxalates.
