Is my ketones reading too high?

ketones

Hello all,
I am normally a lurker, but figured it’s time for me to start posting .
Okay so, here the thing. My Blood Ketone meter normally reads me in the 2-2.9 area. I have about ten pounds in six weeks, which is kind of slow, so I thought maybe my ketones are so high because I’m too low on calories … like maybe I’m just starving lol. I am good at eyeballing fats and carbs, as I tracked em hard for a few months last year before going hard on Keto. When I track again for the day, my calories are over what I’m told to eat in order to loose!!

Well I have been sick and not eating much for two days, but the few foods I have eaten have been caloric and fatty. Today I tested this!! 4.5. I’m wondering if I’m not losing weight because my ketones are too high!

Is this possible ?!

High ketones are not preventing you from losing weight. 10 pounds in 6 weeks is pretty good. More likely, you are gaining weight in lean mass, such as muscle and BONE. Are you losing inches?

The level of ketones in your blood is demand driven. When you need more energy the liver makes them and when you don’t need as much energy, the levels in your blood go down. You will probably notice your ketone levels are higher between meals and lower after eating or just waking up. This is all normal.

Ketones can be produced from the fat we eat or metabolized from body fat so if you are not eating and you are producing ketones, it’s more likely that you are losing weight… just not in amounts that you might notice on the scale in a day’s time. But since you say you have been eating things that are fatty, it’s likely that your high level of ketones are coming from that.

That isn’t terrible. It takes some people longer than others to get the scale moving consistently.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to air them out. There’s no need to lurk. The folks here are pretty compassionate and non-judgemental
