Is losing weight harder if you have diabetes?

It’s interesting to read what “experts” are saying. https://theconversation.com/losing-weight-is-hard-but-its-not-any-harder-if-you-have-type-2-diabetes-86773

It is essentially saying that insulin resistance does not matter when it comes to losing weight.

Admittedly, it’s surprising that weight loss was virtually the same across non-diabetics, pre-diabetics, and diabetics.

It surprises me as well.

I’ll bet they are talking reduced calorie diets, not Keto.

Yeah, VLC, I think so - “a liquid formula diet for weight management.” Yummy, eh?

Still, I’d have thought the more insulin-resistant ones would lose less weight.

I think it is odder that it was a higher carb diet I would expect a diabetic to have a harder time releasing fat while consuming carbs than someone who is insulin sensitive. That is the premise of the keto diet that it is the insulin

I think the weight loss was unimpressive for everyone.
Keto for diabetes works so well who cares what came before it.

(Jamie Hayes) #8

Yes I’d bet the same.

The comments at the bottom of this The Conversation article are interesting. One expert wrote “This is supported by many other studies showing that fat and protein intake - not just carbohydrate intake - stimulate insulin requirements.”
