Hello guys.

I’ve found this article which says that Kale is a keto friendly vegetable.

Anyway, it seems that Kale has 9 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams.

What are your thoughts on this?

Should I eat Kale on a ketogenic diet? I eat one meal a day only.

I think bok choy is a better alternative.

According to Chronometer 1 cup chopped kale is 0.8 g net carbs and is only 16 gms.

Please don’t tell me you are going to follow Dr Berg’s advice and eat 6 cups of greens!!!

:woman_facepalming:

But yeah, most would consider kale to be keto-friendly.

Thank you.

I don’t have acces to Bok Choy right now.

How about Chard? It has 3.7 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams.

Take a look below:

Total Fat 0.2 g 0%
Saturated fat 0 g 0%

Kale is fine.

If you are trying to keep carbs < 20 Net then Chard would have 1.1 gms net carbs which is Total Carbs minus Dietary Fiber. A lot of us use < 20 Net Carbs, but some of us use <20 Total Carbs, so if you are counting total carbs then you would be correct.

I saw that in Chronometer, but everywhere else I looked Kale is about 5 Net Carbs. I found Total Carbs anywere between 6.7 - 8.7 with Fibre of anywhere from 1.3 to 3.6. I don’t bother eating Kale because I’m using < 20 Total Carbs.

What’s wrong with dr bergs greens advice?

(Jane) #9

Have you ever eaten that many greens yourself? And eat it every day like he recommends? That’s just nuts.

5 net carbs??? For how much? I posted what one cup chopped kale has. MyPlate also show less than 1 carb for a cup.

Kale has 8 net grams of carbs per 100 grams:

It’s an excellent green vegetable. @Janie a ‘cup’ is not a useful measure. ‘Cup’ may be my anything since it depends on how much you put in it.

My Fitness Pal has Total Carbs 8 Fibre 3, but I just googled most of the results, which is kind of how I get most of my carb info, but Fat Secret has 6.7 total 1.3 Fibre, I don’t think Cronometer has a good handle on Kale, it seems to be a weird one to get info on. ( I believe these are all 1 cup chopped )

In the two years I’m keto I’ve eaten kale pretty regularly. Small portions!

(Jane) #14

That’s why I said “16 gms” to give people an idea of just how much kale 100 gms is - not to use it to measure your portions.

I do regulary, but since I fast 18 hours every day it keeps me full for hours, I usually do air fryer kale, spinach scrambled eggs, or just a big ass salad. Lets just say I have a huge appetite for being at 9% body fat
