My whole family have recently had a flu-like cold and this week it was my turn. My husband was taking ‘Panadol Cold & Flu’ for it and gave me some too. I took these tablets for about 2 and a half days. They contain 500mg Paracetamol and 5mg Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, also contains Potassium Sorbate as preservative. But I have had zero ketones since taking them. I don’t think I’ve eaten any carbs and all my meat has been very fatty so the only thing that is different is the medicine. Is it possible this medicine can stop ketosis?
Is it posible medicine can stop ketosis?
Hi Sarah,
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride is an adrenergic agonist meaning it stimulates adrenaline other neurotransmitters as part of the sympathetic nervous system.
These all elevate glucose.
I also wonder if your cortisol is elevated as a result of viral infection. That too would put up your glucose levels.
Did you have a fever? More likely to have increased cytokines and cortisol if that is the case.
Just a random thought. Might be totally wrong!
Thanks for your reply. I don’t think I had a fever but didn’t measure my temperature but I felt very tired and had no energy so spent most of the days doing nothing.
Sounds like a sick body.
Cortisol would normally be elevated in that case and that would elevate your glucose levels and reduce ketosis.
It’s possible yes. But it’s also possible that it’s down to you being ill. Just get yourself better and sort things out after.
