I think I may have taken too much my first day Sup potassium. Took a little more than 2 tsp of no salt today but tried use it with food.
Is it critical to not over Sup Potassium
I think you have to be careful with potassium, more of long term issue, not just one day. You really should do the research yourself on effects of long term over supplementation of it, or any others you decide to take.
If I decide to use any potassium, I follow the keto-aide recipe on this site for electrolyte supplementation.
What symptoms are you experiencing?
NoSalt contains 1/4 tsp of potassium per serving and no sodium.
1 serving = 640 mg
so 2 tsp = 640 x 8
That’s 5120mg, or just over 5g of potassium in addition to whatever was contained in your food. Unless you are consuming even more sodium than that, you have probably created an electrolyte imbalance at that level.
Potassium overload in something you do not want to mess around with as it can have diuretic and cardiac effects.
Thanks Carol yes I felt sick last night but am much better this morning and today I’m going to cut that number in half today since I over did it yesterday and only take 1 tsp potassium along with my magnesium and pink salt which should come up to 2,560 mg. Here’s a picture of what a fellow ketonian sent me though and is probly partly why I had so much magnesium
Yeah, that’s kind of a general guideline. I’d ease into it and spread the supplements out through the day to avoid acute fluctuations in water balance and blood concentrations. Balance is the key and can vary by individual. I take the magnesium also if I have cramping issues, more on a fast.
Thank you Carol!Yeah so with that general guide I’m going to definitely go at least 1000 mg under and try to keep a little closer eye on how else I’m receiving potassium with food.
Not all food nutritional labels list potassium content (US). Check the ingredient list for hidden potassium sources or use a food database for whole foods.
…when i was tracking closely i came up with my own optimal levels. Now i can just go by taste and know my signs of imbalance.
