Is Counting Needed

(Running from stupidity) #62

Oh, the trolling metric. Got it.

(less is more, more or less) #63

I’m genuinely confused. Did @Alley change the subject line? ā€œIs counting neededā€ seems innocuous to me and I’m open to how this might be offensive.

It depends on your root cause health issues. I was obese because I likely have extra ghrelin production. (it’s a genetic SNP).

To this day, I don’t get the right hungry , full signals, so yes- I track. I was formerly 40 years obese yo-yo dieting, now 6 years 8 months in weight maintenance (normal BMI).

If I don’t address my root cause (faulty hormone signals around satiety) with corrective action - reducing total caloric intake and preventive action food tracking to prevent weight re-gain then I’m going to yo-yo again and again.

I owe it to my life and my finances to own my genetics detecting work and to tracking my food. Eating to satiety made me very obese. Tracking keeps me lean and normal weight. It’s not matter of choice. It’s a gene that expressed itself at age 6.

My weight wants to come back. I won’t let it. Tracking is a key tool. I hope that others who need the tracking tool can use tools that work for them. It’s not easy, but do able with the right template.

Onward, with only what works for you.

@Chipmunk I am on week 8 of Keto this time. I did Keto last year for about 6 months and lost 18 lbs down to 122lbs(I doubt that I would have maintained this weight as I think it’s a bit low for me , I am 5.5 ft. I fell off the Keto wagon in March and gained 2 stone :rage:. I started back in September at 148 lbs and today weigh 137lbs. My Keto journey has been very different this time with a much slower weight and inch loss. In the last few weeks I have yo-yo’d up and down so I’m really hoping that it’s all downhill from here. I tried IF a couple of weeks ago and last week I did a FF keeping calories under 1200. For the last 2 days I have had OMAD. I would prefer to eat 2 meals a day but I think that if I eat 2 meals until I am full I will be way over my macros. My macros to lose weight are 1244 cals, 92g fat, 83g protein and 20g carbs. Thanks

yes the name was changed

(bulkbiker) #67

Yes it was originally titled ā€œStop Countingā€

(Janelle) #68

Yes - it was called ā€œDon’t Countā€ (the post above this one  is probably correct). I swear I’m not an unreasonable person (so now it kind of looks like I really am one). The tone didn’t sit well with me yesterday. I didn’t take huge offense but it came across as an edict that doesn’t work for everyone (and there are a lot of newbies here - including me.)

Fair enough, thanks, all. My wife, kids and myself are quite stubborn, and take direct commands as possible suggestions. That said, I value civility, and it does seem like this forum is correcting itself on that front, which is refreshing in this age.

That is exactly what happen to me a few years ago when I 1st attempted to do keto on my own , yea that was a true life horrifying scary experience that I not long after ran as quickly as possible to the nearest exit from keto :weary:.
But on this year and thanks to observing my son successfully achieve his weight loss goal by doing keto I decided to join him a few weeks ago but this time with his continued encouragement and tough love & keto education through keto video’s 2 week’s later I can happily and thankfully & proudly say yippee patiences & my 3 D’s Desire
Determination
Dedication:muscle: got me into ketosis 2 days ago :cupid: .
So excited & bytheway it’s no longer scary to me & I’m enjoying my newfound keto yummy (fat)way of life

excellent, and happy to hear. welcome to the fat burn club, and yes the path can be a lot of fun. It is liberating to not be a slave to food.

@Gillybean
Your macros put you at almost 30% kcal deficit. That’s a lot, your body maybe needs more and is holding to the fat tissue reserves as if you were starving. Maybe try 20% deficit, stick with it for a month at least (ladies and our hormonal cycles can be tricky).
Side note: when l say satiety l mean: no longer hungry, place to have some more but why stuffing myself. The eating has to be mindful. I always had problems with overeating, it was super difficult to hit that spot: sadisfied, not hungry, not too full, l could eat more but it is only cause of stress/boredom/just for pleasure.

Do you exercise? It is not necessary to loose weigh but it helps to lower the stress ( cortison levels) which might be stalling you. For me it is lack of sleep. After a sleepless night l can see up to 3-4 lbs going up from one day to another after perfect Keto day or even a week.

Let me know what you think about my feedback and l hope that this helps.

Also nothing help like simply being persistent, not being discouraged and once falling of the wagon getting back on it ASAP.

I say that from an experience of 7 years of Keto /paleo. I never came back to carbage. Now back on keto for health benefits.

KCKO

(Running from stupidity) #73

The subject was ā€œStop countingā€ followed by the overly-aggressive string of posts.

#74

@Chipmunk Thankyou! Extremely helpful! How do you calculate the calorie deficit? I definitely should be eating more I feel.

I find that when I eat my first meal of the day and eat until I’m ā€˜comfortable’ that I am hungry not long afterwards. In other words if I have my lunch I will be hungry way before dinner time. Eating seems to kick things off…

#75

@Chipmunk I don’t exercise per se but Iwalk my 2 dogs most days for 30 to 45 minutes.

#76

on the surface would say lack of protein and Fat

(less is more, more or less) #77

If my response was in the overly-aggressive string, my apologies to all.

(Running from stupidity) #78

Not at all. From the OP.

(charlie3) #79

I think the fair answer to the question about tracking is give it try and see for yourself. I use Crono and find it useful and worth continuing for now. It helps me with micro nutrients, not just macros.

(Joanna Parszyk ) #80

Walks are an excellent exercise!
I like playing with macros and l just imputed your numbers.
In my experience whenever eating triggered further hunger fast it was simply not enough in total or not enough fats and protein.
Also in my case there are certain foods that make me more hungry even though in theory that should do just fine: artificial sweeteners, dairy (but not butter or Swiss cheese) and nuts…
What works to tame the hunger: cooked hot meals like scramble eggs, stews with meat. Protein from animal sources. The darkest chocolate yucan find ( 85% and up, l do 90-99%). Adding konjak powder to thicken up puddings and hot meals or using konjak noodles or rice to bulk up the meals. Sometimes l still need to feel the streach in the stomach, sometimes just a little bit nutritionally dence food will do just fine .
Hope that it makes sense to you, l’m just sharing my experiences and not say that anyone has to follow it.

It all makes perfect sense. Thanks a million for your help . I like the sound of eating dark chocolate to tame the hunger but I think it might take me a while before I can eat 90-99%! I tried 90% the last time I did Keto and the bar ended up in the bin. I thought it was awful :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.
