Hi all, My name is Jason. I’m 285 6’3" . Started keto diet about 3 months ago at 303 lbs. I haven’t lost any weight in over a month. I lift weights 3-4 times a week. I I think I was getting too much protein and not enough fat. Last week I started counting my macros and bought some urine strips. Now my daily macros are protein 62 to 80 grams carbs 10 - 15 grams fat 120 to 150 g calories are 1300 - 1600. When I stepped on the scale this morning I was down one pound. When I do the urine tests it has my mg/dl between 5-10 which I believe is low. Not sure why it’s not higher. Any advice
Intro and questions
Stall early in keto happens to many, if not most.
I would advise you to not worry about calories and continue to eat fat until satiety. It sounds like you aren’t giving your body enough to eat.
Edit: the scale is your worst enemy as well. I lost dresses sizes but no weight in these last few months, it would be wise to begin to measure body changes instead of relying on the scale.
PISS (Post Induction Stall Syndrome) is the transition between consuming high levels of fat and your body becoming “fat adapted”. For me the scale stalled for a few weeks. However, again for me, I seemed less and less hungry between meals during this time. So the between meal snacks evolved away. I did not force it. I just wasn’t hungry between meals. My body was becoming “fat adapted”. After a few weeks like this my weight started dropping again. Many people have this experience.
Hi Jason and welcome to the forum!
Love the name you picked @Slimjim
I think you are probably eating a bit too little for your body to be happy… I don’t count calories, and I firmly believe in learning to listen to your body. How are you feeling day to day? Are you taking any medicines or supplements that might be influencing your BS (blood sugar)?
Stalling is quite normal not just in the beginning, but from time to time during your journey. The body needs time to adjust and heal. Remember that you also need time to heal and rest after your workouts.
I highly recommend you sett off a few hours to read on the forum and see if you find the answers you’re seeking. There is a lot of great information and good people here.
Also, I’m leaving a link to an article written by Dr.Jason Fung on feasting and fasting. I know you’re not asking about fasting and it may be way to soon for you to think about… but the general information in there is great.

Urine strips a kind of like a pregnancy test: they tell you if you are producing (excess) ketones or not, but the level doesn’t really matter. For one thing, the color of the strip depends on hydration and excretion. Lifting exercises can use up the ketones you produce so there isn’t as much excess for the kidneys to get rid of. Also, some people see urine ketones go to trace amounts after they become better adapted at using them.
