Interesting distinction

I was reading a blurb on yahoo news today from a retired Navy Seal. He made the distinction between motivation and discipline. He said motivation is an “emotion,” where as discipline is a conscious decision. I found that very interesting and have to agree with it.

In the case of food addiction, however, (or I guess any addiction), even discipline is sometimes not enough because there are bigger issues at play - deprivation, compulsion, hunger, craving. Keto for me has removed all of these components that I found with conventional dieting. Keto has not been difficult. The times when I may be tempted, I just eat some bacon or some other keto choice and I am satisfied again.

I have zero self discipline. I had motivation, but not all that much. I eliminated added sugar and all starch initially, because I was pre-diabetic. I liked dinners of protein and veggies, potatoes and pasta were fine, but they were not the main attraction for me, I have always had a savory type of taste. I did have to cut out my chocolate truffles and chocolate cake, decided to have some fresh fruit instead and found I loved it equally. That’s when the weight started to come off. Eventually the fruit fell by the wayside in favor of protein and fat - because I liked it. I had never felt free to eat a lot of fat, and now I was unleashed. For me, the trick is to stay satisfied, not to discipline myself into something I don’t want to do. If I am satisfied, I have no complaints and no cravings or hunger etc.

I agree. I love eating rich food.

Yes.

Or motivation is inspiration and discipline is executed action in real-time. Translated: 1% inspiration 99% blood sweat and tears!
