Intense craving for beans

I know beings are not keto friendly but I really miss eating beans. I mean it was such an integral part of my childhood and eating habits as an adult. I understand that beans are not keto friendly but I sure do miss eating them.

Many people use the Eden Black Soy Beans:

And i was just looking for a new Keto chili recipe!
I do understand. I grew up eating Asian, Polish and Hungarian foods. That means rice, buns and noodles. I miss them and the comfort they bring to me but I don’t miss:

  • the 25 pounds of fat I’ve lost so far
  • the addiction to carbs/sugar
  • my eczema or other skin breakouts
  • my knees hurting
  • the cravings or binge eating

I choose to feel good, healthy, vibrant and light over temporary satisfaction from mom’s Haluski (cabbage and noodles) or dad’s Char Siu Bao (steamed pork buns.)

It’s worth it!

A half cup of beans will not hurt your keto about 12 net carbs.

Enjoy your beans! :slightly_smiling_face:

I usually boil them (pinto beans), rinse and reboil 3 or 4 times to remove the oligosaccharides (what causes gas/flatluence) or sugars in them so I can eat more than a half cup if I wanted too!

Oh wow I thought beans were 100% not Keto

You could literally eat anything you want on a ketogenic diet just have to be careful about the amount which would not be very filling depending on what you choose to eat!?

A tiny piece of cake compared to a big salad and other keto-friendly veggies (micro-nutrients) and meat (more micro-nutrients), you get to eat more?

I remember watching these two bloggers talking about how they were eating just table sugar and still getting into ketosis; they had me rolling on the floor I was laughing so hard!

Eden organic black soy beans are really delish - they don’t taste like soy funnily enough - they’re just like black beans to me.

Sometimes I want a Mexican style brunch with huevos rancheros and beans, and they’re perfect for it!

Also, in the Drs. Eades Low Carb Cookbooks (from back in the 90s) there’s a FABULOUS recipe for black soybean bread.

In the New Atkins New You book, in the cultural cuisines/restaurant section they talk about limiting regular beans to a 1/2 cup - with the super low carb organic black soy beans though, you can eat more. There’s also organic soybean/edamame pasta from Explore Cuisine (I got mine on Amazon, but Costco’s also sells similar stuff). It’s really good for those times when one wants that al dente pasta experience - but doesn’t want to make the fancier homemade egg pasta. :sparkles:

Well thanks you guys all gave me some great ideals

I’m not really sure I could subscribe to that idea about being able to eat anything I want on the ketogenic diet just a small amount. For my brain that wouldn’t work because I would find a way to escape goat out of that and say Oh I thought it was okay. So for me I literally need to stick to the keto script. But thanks for the different perspective

I think some of us on Keto avoid them not necessarily due to carb content, but because we have an inflammatory reaction to beans/legumes…alongside that, personally, it would trigger carb cravings for me :disappointed:

Beans aren’t keto in the sense that a 15 carb price tag for a 1/2 cup is too high when you only have 20. Remember, everything except completely unprocessed meat and pure fats have carbs in them. Every egg, bite of cheese, condiments, leaf of lettuce, and rasher of bacon has its price.

Beans are keto in the same sense that anything is keto if you have little enough of it and if you’re willing to not eat much else during the entire day.

A half a Mars bar is keto by that same definition.

Wow. For me I could never eat a candy bar and consider myself keto because I don’t have the willpower to eat half a candy bar. So for me and my opinion only I have to stick to literally the Keto Plan otherwise I will fall off the wagon. I have no clue but you can eat anything in moderation and consider yourself keto. I never knew that that was possible but thanks for the information but I don’t think I could ever do that. But it’s nice to know that sense of knowledge
