You should only stop taking medication as directed by your doctor and if you don’t like your doctors opinion, find a new one lol.

Once insulin is in the blood, it shuttles glucose (carbohydrates), amino acids, and blood fats into the cells of the body. If these nutrients are shuttled primarily into muscle cells , then the muscles grow and body fat is managed.

Have you been keeping a very close eye on your blood sugar? If you’re on insulin producing meds then you can go dangerously low with a change in diet such as this. You should talk to your doctor ASAP if you haven’t already. It is a good diet for diabetics but the types of meds you take can complicate it.

thanks for the replies my doctor has me on insulin producing meds im a little confused as i thought insulin was the enemy so dont understand how taking meds to force my body to produce more of it would be good i would have thought it would be a bad thing he also started me on a new med that releases excess blood glucose via urine which i started at same time as the diet my blood glucose levels were 18.0 au / 324 us that was pretty much all the time would go down slightly before eating but was eating mainly carbs my latest a1c was 14 have been checking BG levels 6 times a day am type 2 diabetic and at beginning of week was 18 / 324 and has been sitting at 6-7 / 108-126 pretty much all day regardless what i eat during my eating window i am trying to do an 18 hour fast everyday i started with 12 hour then 18 hour then today 16 hour basically my question is how would taking meds to produce more insulin help ??? please help
cheers

ps also thinking about purchasing a new monitor that also does ketone checks as well but dont think my BG would be anywhere near low enough for any ketosis to be taking place
cheers

Have you discussed this change in diet with your doctor? With the big reduction in your glucose levels & the change in your eating habits it’s very important that you have a medical professional review your medication needs. Insulin producing meds are suitable in certain circumstances but if circumstances change then you must discuss it with your doctor so they can make necessary adjustments to your treatment.

I really don’t think you should be fasting until you have seen your doctor. Insulin is not “the enemy” - it is vital to life but with the help of a doctor you may be able to reduce your meds so you produce just as much as you need.

See your doctor.

Insulin does more for us than make us fat, it’s too much that’s the issue. Depending on what you’re on (assuming metformin?) if you’re monitoring your sugars you should be able to self adjust to keep yourself where you need to be. If you’re a diagnosed diabetic at least here in the US a diabetic councilor typically shows you how to use a sliding scale to adjust your meds with your needs or lack of. Check your sugars, and see what they do. It’s really not rocket science, if your sugars are on the lower side thanks to keto don’t go crazy with blood sugar lowering meds. Talk to your doctor, but always expect them to have an issue with what we do and when/if they do time to go rogue.
