I’m very new to keto dieting and have SOOO many questions that I can’t find answers too without getting completely frustrated! Here are a few, any help would be greatly appreciated
1- I’m am eating a total of 12 grams of net carbs a day (sometimes less) is this ok for weight loss?
2- I never reach my intake allowance of fat and proteins, what am I doing wrong?
3-I take medication for diabetes and check my blood sugars daily, they are, on average, between 5.8 and 6.7 is this ok?
HELP! THANKS AGAIN

Yes. Are you using an online tool to check for hidden carbs? https://www.fatsecret.com is a good site and the info is fairly accurate.

2- I never reach my intake allowance of fat and proteins, what am I doing wrong?

You should try and hit your protein allowance, but your fat allowance is more of a guide than it is a requirement. Are you hungry? If not then keep on going, watch the scales and enjoy the food. How did you calculate your protein? I find it fairly difficult not to exceed my protein and I’m not a big meat eater. https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ is a good calculator

3-I take medication for diabetes and check my blood sugars daily, they are, on average, between 5.8 and 6.7 is this ok?

Only your doctor can answer that. But watch out as you get further into the keto diet your blood sugars will drop and you might need to decrease your medication, if not stop it all together, again, something to discuss with your doctor and not people on this forum.

Good luck

Hi @Shannon_Ghostkeeper. Seems like you are on track. @allan’s advice is spot on. Don’t stress initially too much though about weight, rather work your way into ketosis and then focus on getting fat adapted. As you become adapted your body will burn fat - what you ingest and what you have stored wooo hooo :yum::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::grin: keep to your protein to maintain muscle and ask your doc to watch your fasting insulin levels and A1C levels as opposes to pure glucose. Don’t let the initial adaptation period stress you as like a car going from diesel to solar your body needs to kick start from carb to fat metabolism. So just “keep calm and keto on”

I agree with all of Allan’s post, but I also want to add if you listen to the beginning of any of the 2 Keto Dudes podcast, they specifically state ketosis will have you getting your energy from fat on your body or fat that you eat. I was very much heavier when I started, and opting for a little less dietary fat and more protein helped me out for sure (combined with different styles of fasting).

How much protein are you trying to eat, and how much are you actually eating? The usual recommendation is a gram of protein per kilogram of lean body mass a day. It’s usually harder to stay down at that level than it is to get up to it, so you may be setting your goal too high.
