Inflammation observation

(Ellie) #1

I recently had surgery for Morton’s Neuroma and have just had my 4 week check up with the surgeon.
She commented that I have a particularly small amount of swelling and am doing well to be back in normal shoes so soon.
In fact even at the 1 and 2 week check up there was only very localised swelling around the wound site and the rest of the foot looked basically normal.
I half put this down to keto without really believing it 100%, but then last week I went to a work conference for 3 days and they had gone for a Chinese food catering theme and even the veggie and meat dishes would have contained msg and sugars. In the end I had significantly more carbs than usual without going too crazy. Probably 100g per day and I have 3lbs of water weight to prove it!
And…My foot swelled. I was getting quite worried as it hasn’t so far. It stayed swollen for 3 days, even in the mornings after being asleep.
Now I have been home for 3 days and straight back to keto and, quelle surprise, my foot returned to normal within 24 hours.

I now absolutely believe that keto has helped my fast healing from this surgery and the anti-inflammatory properties are clear to me.
Always nice to have an, albeit accidental, n=1 experiment!
