Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and also about 3 weeks into Keto and down 13lbs. Before I started Keto I had some minor inflammation in my right knee but never this much pain. I went for a walk thinking I would enjoy my day off and possibly exercise my leg muscles. Didn’t end well, I barely made it back to the car and I have it wrapped up with moist heat and comfrey oil. I started taking magnesium and electrolytes over a week ago because I had some leg cramps. I drink bullet coffee in the AM and have egg and tomato with mayo, pork rinds and cream cheese or chicken salad for lunch at work then cauliflower pizza for dinner has been my usual lately because I made such a large pie. Am I doing something wrong?? or is there anything I should be doing?? Thank you, Marianne
Inflamation in right knee
Keto is an anti-inflammatory diet, so maybe a coincidence?
Tomato for me, is the most inflammatory food to eat for my knee arthritis.
I love tomatoes but need to avoid nightshades like the plague.
Eliminate them and see if there’s an improvement.
Just my .02.
Maybe try some bone broth, see if it helps?

It won’t be antiinflammatory if she’s eating mayo.
@danishmom the reason I say this is most, if not all, mayos are made from processed, hydrogenated seed oils (palm, safflower, palm kernel, vegetable, canola, rapeseed, etc), which contain conjugated linoleic acid. This fatty acid is an Omega 6 fatty acid and sustains systemic inflammation in humans. It’s a major health concern and is found in nearly every kitchen in America. This inflammation as far as I know has been linked to heart disease, cancer, and a slew of other massive problems. Unless your mayo does not contain any of this, throw it away.
You should be icing an inflamed joint, not heating it. Hope it feels better soon.
I was really hitting a variety of LC nuts after starting Keto. Turns out, I can’t eat nuts or my hip joint hurts badly, enough to wake me up at night and prevent outdoor walking for fun/exercise.
I love nuts, but I can’t eat nuts.
As long as I stay completely away from them, my hip pain goes away about 3 days after that and stays away, until I ‘try’ a little nuts, again. (I’m dense that way. lol)
Perhaps there’s some food that is your kryptonite, like nuts are for me.
I was eating pistachios which is a nut I never really indulged in til 1 1/2 weeks ago. I am going to cut out nuts , tomatoes and cut down dairy and see what happens. TY
@Dread1840 is right, get rid of conventional mayo. It’s easy to make mayo with healthy oils such as lite olive oil or avocado oil (my fave), and I can now find avocado oil mayo with a clean ingredient list (chosen foods & primal brands) whenever I go to the store. My knees are both bone-on-bone, and I’ve gone from using a cane to sometimes forgetting to take my ibuprofen, and it’s not just the weight loss. My overall inflammation is WAY down.
Well it turns out that the inflammation in my knee was a bakers cyst. After it burst and I was in so much pain I went to get it x-rayed.Unfortunately I was put on prednisone for 5 days, Hopefully after this I can get back on track and get out of this stall and start dropping weight again. Thanks for all the tips on inflammation.
Glad you figured this out. I realize that most on this site will advise on which food to fix what ailment. Sometimes pain is a structural issue that food will not touch. I’ve had a shot knee for 30+ years that will require replacement sometime in the future. Losing weight and walking more regularly will certainly extend that timeline but no amount of keto will spontaneously build a new acl or replace cartilage that is long gone. Just keeping it real.
You are so right. Walking around on concrete all day isn’t going to help either but its all I’ve got. So losing some weight will help a little. I am trying herbs as well, specifically solomons seal and horsetail together. Here’s to hoping
