Increased my Carbs

I was staying below 20 well below it being I mostly eat carnivore I don’t crave veggies much . I have been stalled for months I tried switching things up OMAD a bit of everything except higher carb . Yesterday and today I did higher and I’m talking 35-40 and now the scale is moving I guess I don’t understand it has anyone else experienced this maybe I just had to find what my body liked ? Anyway I’m not sad about it i Just always followed the under 20 and thought I was doing it the right way .

I have read that some people benefit from going on a high carb cheat day then switch back to keto. Apparently it can reset their metabolism and help get over a plateau/stall. Don’t know the science behind it but it helps some people.

For those who are 100% fat-adapted and not very metabolically deranged, there is plenty of evidence that physiology embraces variability and some degree of randomness in order to keep metabolically recomposing. And that ruts can happen, because the body is either responding to change or settling into ruts/habits. CHANGE IS GOOD, because everything’s changing all the time down to a subatomic level. Optimal physiology is highly adaptive, and in sync with biodynamic seasonal cycles too. Of course, too much randomness can become stressful and spike cortisol, so, each person’s stress management resources can be a factor.

Megan Ramos of Dr. Fung’s IDM talks a lot about the importance of changing things up. For IR folks, the change doesn’t mean increasing carbs - it’s more about going in between fasting & feasting (for beginners she recommends 2 days of IF then 5 days of feasting to get the body ready to fast again).

So, esp for those who aren’t food addicts or IR - there’s no such thing as a ‘cheat’ day really - it’s about conscious feasting choices for physiological agility. Traditional indigenous & aboriginal peoples had high degrees of variability & randomness in their food supplies and also stored food for… feasting!

There’s a lot about the fascinating physiology of homeostasis vs. antifragility in keto researcher Christi Vlad Zot’s book:

I just came back from a stressful family time and I did eat more carbs for several weeks, maybe 50 a day instead of 20. I don’t know if there’s a connection but I’ve lost 11 pounds over the last few months after a year-long stall.

So it apparently didn’t hurt.

Good news that you are losing… however it works. Not saying you need to since you are losing weight, but did you ever try fasting? Seems the greatest weight lost gains are during a fasting state.

It seems the only time I lose weight is when i’m Fasting but the biggest benefit I’ve seen is resetting my satiety and breaking habitual eating. I’ve only eaten once (lunch today) since Sun night and I feel fine. Planning to have lunch and dinner tomorrow night and then fast again.

I have tried and I can’t seem to fast even though I have been at this woe since June maybe it’s all in my head I just can’t seem to go further than a day till dinner then I’m starving and I over eat I was a huge binge eater so I seem to think that was hurting me . I wish I could fast like most I guess its not for me yet atleast. So doing OMAD I was gaining and I presume i was overeating my one meal one thing I have t tried is tracking I guess that’s what I should do as much as weighing and measuring isn’t my thing .

Could have been a whoosh effect?

Maybe you are not ready. What helped me was cooking specifics amounts of food so there was no chance for a 2nd serving and if I was still hungry, I would top off with very low carb foods like cheese sticks, deviled eggs and pork rinds. The extra fat helped me a lot, to get fat adapted.

The question I would constantly ask myself is “do I want to eat or do I need to eat?”. I can’t say I fully understand how powerful binge eating is, but I do know some friends who got caught on that vicious merry-go-round. I hope you find your way off it.

Hey, whatever works for you. There are plenty of things which should and shouldn’t work but, it’s what DOES work that’s important.

Of course carb intake can boost metabolism, it’s just that Nutty Keto Dogma denies it. However, I suggest not consuming them daily as intake can easily creep up. Having them intermittently is better. Try adding some in every few days. Many people just eat them on the weekends for positive results.

Good post. It reiterates a topic now known for decades, but is usually denied by much of Keto Dogma. It’ s probably the hardest thing for Noobs to grasp, the adaptability of nutritional biochemistry and the need to consume limited, periodic carbs for metabolic optimization.

I used to feel the same, I swear it gets easier with practice. my longest is 96 hours. for me… it’s not usually planned, it just happens when I hit a “not hungry” patch… aim to go just a little longer than previously…take a "no pressure " approach, tell yourself you can eat if you feel badly and CHOOSE to… get good sleep…I began to truly like how my body feels when fasting. But remember its also not a necessity! It’s not for everyone, and my bmi is still In the overweight range so, i have plenty of fat
