Quick question. Does the increase in urination transitioning into keto go away?
Increase in urination
I certainly think so. Carbohydrates bind with water, resulting in us releasing water when we severely restrict carbs. You should get to a new balance with your diet.
I’m not sure my situation is quite the same, but before I started Keto I was going to the bathroom to urinate every 30 minutes or so, presumably because my kidneys were flushing glucose. 4 months on and I can for up to 3 hours without the need to go.
Actually it is very similar. I’ve been having the frequency issue for several years with all tests coming back negative, hence me finding myself here trying something new to try & cure it. What I’m finding is that it’s got worse since dropping the carbs. I’m just hoping once I’m adapted more it will improve. Did you find that yours increased before it improved when you began keto?
Perhaps a little bit when I think back, but at least now it’s not getting in the way of my life like it used to!
I find I’m drinking more and thus visiting the toilet more. It’s the up twice a night that’s an annoyance for me. I know if I stop drinking water fluids when I stop eating at about 7pm I can make it through the night. But a lot of it is habit triggered. Usually when I get up in the morning I have to pee. Regardless of wether I get up at 0600 or 0900.
Keto made no difference to me except I drink more water through the day so its gotta go somewhere.

Sounds about right. I was pre-diabetic (likely full on, undiagnosed type 2) and I was constantly thirsty and always had to pee. I used to drive between Seattle and San Francisco frequently. Before Keto I would end up stopping at nearly every rest area. My last trip heading to Seattle (a few months on Keto) and I stopped at the last rest area in California, and made it all the way home before needing to go again. That’s about 550 miles / 8 hours.
I went more frequently in the adaptation phase (about 4-5 weeks) - every 4 to 6 hours and then it went out to 8-10 hours and has now leveled out at about every 7-8 hours after a few months.
I’m glad I found this thread! Our oldest just came to live with us and so (unwilling, maybe) he now eats what we eat. He just asked me tonight why he’s been peeing so much lately. He thought it might be because I gave him a bottle of electrolyte water, since “after that I’ve been going like crazy!” Glad to find my hunch was probably right! He was happy to hear it should “pass” lol.
