Blackberries are in season right now and I’ve had a small bowl of them today and yesterday. I don’t necessarily like blackberries but I figure I’m not getting much fruit at all and I want to be healthy as well as lose weight. But I find myself really really really hungry after eating them. Like I haven’t felt this hungry in a month. Does it have something to do with eating fruit? And how much in season berries is a serving for us keto people. It’s not something like three berries is it?!
In season berries: making me hungrier?
If you’re like me, then yes, it’s the fruit making you hungrier. After ingesting fruit I am usually ravenous within 20 minutes. I chalked it up to the rapid rise and fall of my blood sugar levels so I don’t eat fruit at all anymore. Miss it like crazy, but I’d rather not have the BG rollercoaster ride.
Sue
A cup of raw blackberries is probably gonna have around 7g of net carbs give or take a little. A cup is more than I would probably eat if given “all I wanted”. A serving is considered 100g, which is closer to 2/3 of a cup and a little under 5g of net carbs.
Those aren’t huge amounts of carbs and small amounts of berries can fit into a keto diet pretty nicely. They’re not food groups. But they make a decent condiment, something for just a little touch of something fun and sweet if you like that kind of thing.
Quarts of berries at a time, not so good. A few berries here and there, not generally a problem.
I find them hard to resist on the bush, and pick 4-5 off and pop them when hiking.
I don’t count them as anything but one of life’s simple pleasures!
I found in the past certain fruits will drive my appetite…
I agree Sue. I probably ate a half cup of berries and I feel extremely tired especially around my eyes, if that makes sense. Also, I feel like I need to eat more food. Which I shouldn’t have to. I should be full.
I can eat/drink all the sweeteners I want and not care a whit but omg berries/fruit give me cravings bad. If I use them as a salad topper or drown them in whip cream it helps though.
Thanks for sharing. I thought I was crazy thinking that berries were making feel starving
