So, I’m now in my 10th week and 2 work weeks in the bag. I’m down 25.6# so far and continue on lower DM & HTN meds. It is definitely harder in some ways because I am back to work and more active due to taking public transportation and walking and stair climbing a lot more.
Definitely hungrier in the morning when I get into work, but fortunately my office provides a lot of snacks and fresh fruit. There are small avocados available so I have started eating one w/ a couple packets of cream cheese once I am in the office. A few days, I have had a small piece of fruit - plum - when I feel the need. For lunch, I am looking at protein beef/chicken/pork and veggies, also provided by my office. They also have Quest bars w/ 4 net grams of carbs, which is nice to have in an emergency.
The downsides aren’t that many, but the smell of toast wafting from the kitchen is one, as well as the ready availability of breakfast cereal, candy and lots of other non-keto snacks.
I had one big cheat (for me) and that was a week ago on Saturday. I needed a cup of coffee and made the mistake of going into a bakery where I knew they had great coffee. BUT, I stood in line long enough that I had a chance to check out ALL the pastries available. I ended up buying a cinnamon morning bun to go w/ my coffee! It was SO delicious, but after I got home and logged my food (bun), I found out it was over 500 cal and 64g of CARBS!!!
I decided I had eaten more than enough and wasn’t going to beat myself up about it. I fasted for the next 24 hours and my blood sugars were fine! So I realized from this that I can eat an occasional treat, but fasting afterward makes sure my BG is good. Really good to know that, and also good to find out this week that a small piece of fruit won’t blow up my BG either. Guess I am in the fat adaptation stage, which is a great place to be!
Hope everyone is doing well and continuing on their journey.
